I have a debt of $8749 from the evil Chase company. They were Wychoiva and I was paying 9.9% and they got traded to Chase and they raised my interest to 29.9%. I called them and got them down to 2%, then I lost my job of 9 years and been unemployed for 10 months. Chase sent my case / acct over to a lawyer / debt collector. I can pay 33% of that bill all in one lump sum and wondering if someone can help me do that. I can ONLY pay that amount because I cashed in my 401k. And I wanted it worked out so it's considered Paid vs a "Write Off" because then I will owe taxes on that and my 401k that I took out earlier to pay the debt. Is this possible? Do you know of anyone who can help? - Thank you.

Chase does not own Wachovia credit card debts...wells fargo does. No debts have been sold to chase. Maybe it was Washington Mutual??

Your account is a charge off. Settling it will not change the status nor will they negotiate to change that status.

Call and negotiate the settlement yourself. Be open an honest.

My suggestion to you is not to make any settlements with Chase and cease all contact with them. If they try to sue you, then let them. Typically, when one bank is bought out by another, in this case, WaMu by Chase, 99.999% of the time none of the original account documentation is transferred to the new bank. I was sued by FIA Card Services (B of A) for a Visa that was originated with MBNA. MBNA was bought by B of A several years ago, since banks are sloppy, none of the original documentation was transferred. When it came time to go to court, B of A had nothing. Oh sure, they will flash a few past account statements, but no judge is going to award them a judgement with only a few statements. They didnt have a signed contract, could even produce a boiler plate contract since it originated with another bank, and couldnt even give an exact date or month when the account was originated. The case was dismissed. My point is this, since your account has already been charged off, settling or paying off the balance will not change the charge off on you CR. If Chase wants to get paid, you might as well make them earn it, but more than likely, they cant prove it. And please, dont feel guilty...remember, these guys took billions of your tax money to get bailed out. Did they offer to bail you out?
