It's quite surprising that your creditors are pushing you to file bankruptcy. If the debts get discharged, then you won't have to pay anything to them. A bankruptcy discharge will release you from the personal liability of paying off the dues. I will suggest you to check out the various other debt relief options before you go for filing bankruptcy.

Well, I would not suggest you to file bankruptcy right way. Rather bankruptcy should be your last option. If you can afford to pay back your creditors, then there is no need to file bankruptcy. If you can't, then I would suggest you to go for debt consolidation or settlement. This will help you repay your debts. Normally creditors don't push debtors to file bankruptcy. I am surprised to know that they want you to file bankruptcy. Talk to the attorney asap. I am sure he can provide you with a solution to this problem.

I'll file bankruptcy if I have to, but I don't want to. I want to settle the accounts. That's why it's bothering me that they're saying this. I was hoping they would not want me to file bankruptcy, and they would be more willing to talk settlement to prevent it from happening. I'm very frustrated, and worried that they won't bother to discuss settlement because they think I'm a sure thing to file bankruptcy.
I also just really, really want to know why they are telling me this. It makes no sense.

The only reason that I can think of is that the individual collector whom you've talked to has to meet some collection threshold to satisfy his superiors, and that a debt he has failed to collect on, looks a lot worse in his stats than one that has been discharged. The latter is deemed by their boss to be beyond the collector's control, whereas you former is not. That being the case, I would tell the individual collector(s) who has said it, that after consulting with the attorney, it has been decided that BK of any pre-chargeoff debt is completely off the table. That would put the pressure back on them to collect/settle the debt.
