I am in the process of becoming pre-approved for a mortgage, however I have notice a judgment on my credit report dated 1/12/06. I called the court and found out a default judgment was render against me. I want to settle but not sure how to approach the lawyer on this case. Should I write a letter? call? I really just want to be done with this...any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for responding! The only issue I have with paying this debt is it's listed on my credit report as being $2667.00, however when I called the other day its 4478.06! I am willing to offer an one time settlement of $1500.00, but not sure if I have any other options...

Ah unfortunately you don't have many options. They got a judgment against you and it has been collecting interest ever since. You can try to negotiate a settlement, but they don't have many incentives to accept one. Depending on your state's laws they may be able to try garnishment or bank levies.
