I also received a threatening call, gave them my debit card and they took half of the amount out today and the other half next week. They tell me this will clear this out, are they scamming me? Gave me a confirmation number, but I guess if they were a scam - this would just be part, right? This was a stupid move made in desperation to try and help my Mom, so how do I get out of this mess?

Which state are you in? Unless you mention your state, it's difficult to say whether or not they are licensed to operate in your state. You can check out your state laws from the given page: http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/explain-pdls-laws.html

If you find that your payday lender is illegal and payday lending is prohibited in your state, then it would mean that they are trying to scam you. You owe only the principal balance to them. They won't be able to come after you for any fees. In that situation, you can block your bank account so that they cannot debit any further money from your account. If you've paid them more than the principal amount, ask them to give you a refund of that money.
