Hello,
I live in Md and back in May I took out a payday loan with GTI holdings for $200 after a week I started receiving unauthorized charges to my account so I closed the account. However I sent GTI holdings a email stating the issue and that I would pay a one time payment in June. Needless to say I read alot of your blogs on this site and received knowledge that these loans are illegal and so I sent them another letter stating that the loan was illegal and null in void at this point. I never received and response, but now Im receiving calls from Landmark and now Alliance Solutions saying that Im being charged with 3 counts of fraud and that I need to pay this amount in order to get the people from serving me papers for court. Today they are giving me until 12:30 to contact them back with how I want to rectify this situation......what should I do?

I am from MD too! Payday loans are illegal in Maryland. Debts are civil, not criminal. They cannot take you to court as they are illegal. You may want to contact the Maryland Department of Financial Regulation, 500 North Calvert Street, Room 402, Baltimore, MD 21202, (410) 230-6100. finreg@dllr.state.md.us They along with this great site has helped me get out of the payday loan trap. You may also want to send a complaint to the FTC.

Md Dept asked me to send to them all correspondence, loan docs etc regarding the payday loans. They advised they will investigate. Also said if I see that the lenders are calling to answer the phone and tell them they are being investigated. If calling persists, ignore calls. I have been in touch with them since 2010 and they have helped me tremendously and they are still working on cases for me. They take this type of problem very seriously. In fact, one of my lenders was ordered to cease and desist and I obtained restitution. Call the number I provided and they will tell you what you need to do. You won't regret it.:p

If you borrowed $200 from this lender and then decided to close your bank account your debt with the lender was likely sent immediately to an outside collections agency. i would simply make a payment arrangement with the collections agency and pay back what you borrowed/owe. Problem solved. From my experience the lender and/or the collections agency is always interested in working out a payment arrangement if the consumer miss understood the terms of the loan agreement. prompt communication with a supervisor is always the key to resolving these matters.

what planet are you living on?the loan was illegal and the OP was threatened.don't know where that equates to a collector"helping with a payment arrangement"and don't get me started on those so called "supervisors"they are worse than the humanoids who originally call.so take the shill post elsewhere m'kay?

i edited your post waffles because you can articulate a point without profanity.now to #16.just another garden variety shill/bobo/humanoid.please an illegal lender is lucky to get back the principle, but threatening arrest is what's illegal and i will never advise anyone to just pay a bottomfeeder that breaks the law with threats as that is the only illegality here.now back to the phones drone.

I got the same call. It was very strange. They said they were getting me for bank fraud. They gave me the same time to come up with the money and told me to go to a walmart or cvs and put the money on a card I have never heard of and they would call back and get the pin number off the card to collect the money. They are still taking money out of my account, matter of fact they took two $90.00 payments and a $30.00 payment out of my account today.PLEASE HELP ME!!

I recieved this call from them as well. I simple told them i will see them in court and never got a response back. Then they finally called about 3 weeks later and left me a message stating they put my case in hardship. Nobody asked them to do. I checked with the Sherif department to see if there was anything in my name there and he stated no. they must first notify you in written notice. In Montgomery County PA you have to go throught the sherifs department to serve some one. He assured me there was nothing but to keep calling and checking back daily because threatening to sue someone and not following through is illegal for companies. So now I am harrasing them lol. Still no reponse.
