Okay-the two accounts that I'm about to pay off----exactly how do I go about doing this? Write them a letter, tell them that according to my records, I show this is what is left oweing and in return for my payoff would they please report to the bureaus that I have paid? My records show that one is $62 but my credit report shows that its $67 that is owed. Is that what I pay, the $67? I can not write and ask, this is wells fargo, remember, they haven't answered me on the BIG account that I have been trying to settle with them.
Okay--other account is $133, but its in my name ONLY. I asked this last night in another thread. I am a stay at home wife and mom. I always have been. I have a daughter with special needs and I can not work outside the home due to her illness. Husband has always taken care of us, to the point of sometimes having three jobs. so its always been his credit report that our family has depended on. In the past, when we have put in for something, it was always his report being looked at because he's the bread winner. so should I be concentrating more towards cleaning up his credit first?? maybe not pay this small debt off that is in my name only but put it towards something of his? I am working on both of our reports and paying all debts off, but was wondering if I should re-route things towards him right now?
thanks for any opinions and advice!! shirley

Hi Shirley!
Send a proposal to your creditor first explaining your moves. Wait for their response in writing. Also, you can presently think of paying $67 and then later expect refund if you have paid some extra amount over this account. Basically, they will itemize what you will be paying to them.
Since your hubby's report plays an important role in the family, try to repair it first. Later on, you can think of doing some work on your CR. Or, you can divide the balance to both of the accounts. This way, both the accounts will be surely fixed in a certain period of time. Sometimes, if you give something a priority first, the latter always stays behind. Not to forget, the account balance will keep adding higher.

thanks for responding John.
so what you're saying is that I should FIRST write creditors before paying off to get their agreement to what I'm asking them to report??
The only problem with this particular account is that it belongs to wells fargo and they NEVER answer any of my letters...NEVER even when they're sent certified return receipt. But they did show on my credit report that I've been making payments because they showed my last payment of 12/05 and they also show a balance pretty close to what I have in my records. I'm not going to worry about it being $5 difference. I mean, that could happen somehow. Its not a lot of money to fight over and besides, right now I just want them paid off and one less thing to deal with. Trying to put the monkey on my back, on a diet and make the weight a little lighter. lol shirley

Since the company will be receiving money from their customer for the past account, I will definitely expect a reply from them.
Although wells fargo doesn't respond, but it's good that they never tried to enter anything that is inaccurate for your file.
