There are actually companies that they go through to get these numbers, how scary is that!!!!One of the things they use is called Accurint to get SS#'s. Wow, that should be illegal!

Yes TMD, it is scary, and not just because it is a collection agency. Recently, I heard a career collector say that she'd quite a collection agency soon after being hired, because she learned that a good 75% of the staff were ex-cons, and/or had criminal records.

That's the problem. Evidently CAs don't do background checks on employees (such a high turn over I guess). CAs usually have your SS# with whatever the creditor gives them. It is by sheer laziness of the government that they've not come up with a better "universal" ID system than using SS numbers.
