Is there a sample letter, or template I can use just to request that collection agencies stop calling? I want any contact to be in writing.

Thanks!
Jenna

Here is a sample of the cease and desist letter you can send to the collection agency's mailing address.

Be sure that you have specified in the letter for written communication only. Most of the CA's think that you are trying to avoid this matter and do not want to be contacted. But if you authorize them to be contacted by mail only, your point becomes stronger.

You must send the letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. You will get the green copy signed by them. This will be an important proof of your actions. Have you inquired about the purpose for which the CA is calling you? If they are contacting you for one of your past debt accounts, send them a debt validation letter and get the accurate details in writing.

Ok, I called the first place in an attempt to get a mailing address. I didn't know which CA had left a message, and I didn't know for which account. I found that out so I can add it to my letter.

However, she refused to give me a mailing address! After arguing with her for a few minutes, the most I got was a fax number. I don't want to fax because there's no proof they received it then.

It was Viking Collections for Chase bank. The phone # was 800-287-9306. Where can I find a mailing address?

Thanks for the information so far! I have just discovered these forums and am learning a lot!
