I came out here awhile ago and got some great advice so I'm hoping to get some now. I had a lot of payday loans that I've consolidated with a debt consolidation company and all seems to be going well. But I received a call at work today from a Mrs. Long who said she had an affidavit for both check fraud and theft by wire transfer. She wouldn't give me the name of her company and said that she would be sending this legal paperwork for my employer to fill out to my employer. First of all, as far as I know this is getting paid through the debt consolidation place. Besides, if this is a collection agency which I'm not sure since she wouldn't tell me who they were then isn't that predatory collection to call me at work, threaten me and hang up when I start asking questions? What legal right do they have, don't they have to take me to court? I'm just a bit worried, I don't want my employer to know about this and I don't know what legal rights I have. She told me to hire a lawyer of course. Also when I call the number back they just said it was prelitigation and that was the company name. Any thoughts?

P.S. How do I get that box to the right to go away now, it's over everything I try to read. :(

Prelitigations is a collection agency who has harrassed several people on this site, including my self. If you put in a search for prelitigation also know as United Federal you will find a ton of information on this site. Their collection practices are very illegal and I just recently sent my paperwork back to the Florida Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commision in regards to my complaint. I to received a very harrassing phone call at work and they would not give me any information as well.

Yes, Prelitigation is an illegal collection agency. I will have to do some research before I can confirm you that they are affiliated with Ellis Crosby. They have been using illegal collection practices and abusive behavior. First of all, if they are making a legal collection, they must validate the debt in writing. A letter with complete proof of the debt must be sent to your mailing address within five days of the first call done. If you have not received anything from them, send a debt validation letter and cover your base legally. Check for a template of the debt validation letter in the thread below
