Well, I have the same problem as everyone else. I was called by AI to resolve a debt with amex. I've been trying to pay back to debt and have been making good progress but the caller from AI was very rude. Then he calls me and says that they tried to take funds out to my checking account and and couldn't because there wasn't sufficient funds. First off i never othrized him to do this at all. When i had spoke with the collector i gave AI premission to take only a certain amount out of my checking account. then i told him i would working on getting the rest of the debt paid off. So then he calls me a couple of days later with my bank on the other line and says that my check bounced for the rest of the amount. He was very rude. What else can i do.

Are you sure that allied interstate is authorized by your credit company for this collection? Under the federal laws, all collection agencies must validate the debt in writing before you make any payment. This proves about their legitimate collections.

Allied Interstate does not have a good business feedback. They are famous for their illegal collection activities. There are some topics here discussing about such practices. Read this thread

If you can work out arrangements directly with the credit company and send payments to them, you won't have to deal with this CA. Amex will pull your file back and you can pay off the account directly to the credit company without dealing with the CA.

I believe credit or loan companies hire a collection agency when they are unable to recover the debt amount from the customers. The credit company knows the CA whom they have authorized for collections. They must have the complete details of the debtors. Sometimes, the CA delays in contacting the customer or they hire another collection agency for the collections. It is during this time that the accounts keep on getting disputed with incorrect information since it is changing hands. As per the rule, the company attempting collections must have the complete file of the customer before they contact them. It must be put in writing otherwise, you will never know which company was actually authorized for the collections. In case, you end up paying the wrong company, the one holding the account originally will call you and force you to pay them again.

Pls notify ur bank asap. It could possibly be a scam. Fisrt they cant authorize any money taking out w/o ur permission, its the law and if they did take it out find out thru ur bank and they can trace where the money was going to.
