I received a phone call at home from Midland Collections. THe rep was very rude and insisted I give him the last 2 digits of my SSN. I asked who the creditor was and when he finally told me I knew I had never done business with that company so I refused to give him the numbers he requested. He threatened to hang up on me & was very rude! He refused to give me his last name. How can I lodge a complaint?

Unfortunately it's not against the law for them to be rude. I would have just hung up the phone and not listened anymore. As far as the creditor...would be interested in knowing the creditor this person told you.
the only way to get them to stop calling is to send them a do not call letter. They have to honor that request.
Did this person name you? it's possible they just had a wrong number.

Collectors that are rude think that they are going to intimidate someone into paying. To me rudeness is not going to force me into doing something it is going to push me the other way to say forget it---haven't they ever heard that you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar?

Pamwrn, report the rude behavior of the collector to your local AG's office. Once the company hears from someone in the AG's office, they will think about changing their collection tactics as they never thought to get it focused. Besides, the company should have sent something to you in writing after placing the first call. Check your mail if you have received anything about this debt account. If you have received nothing, send a debt validation letter to the company's mailing address. Send it through certified mail with return receipt requested. This will be your proof of the actions taken to resolve the matter.

They asked for the last two digits of your SSN# tyo confirm identity. Until they have confirmed you are not the person they think you are expect to get more calls.

Many collectors do not use a last name in their alias.

Being rude isn't against the law. If it was 95% of Americans would be in prison.

thanks everyone. THis site has been very helpful. I have not received anything from this agency. I did request my transunion report and I did pull my experian account. They are listed on my report. The creditor was SBS Ameritech. I've never held an account with this company. ALso, there was an address that I have not ever lived at on the report?

Another question please. I am trying very hard to clean up my credit. I had an account with MNBA. The credit limit was $10,000. On my report it shows charged off. Now it is with a collection agency CVCA? THey want $22,000! I want to take care of this as it weighs heavily. I don't have that kind of money! THis is back from the year 2000. IS the SOL from the time it is reported, account opened, or the date it was reported as a collection? I'm confused.

pamwrn1, you need to know the date when the last payment was done towards the account. Based on the SOL laws in your state, it can be confirmed whether it is within the legal collections period. Write a letter to the CA to validate the debt in writing. They must follow the federal laws on fair debt collection practices before you send them any money. Read the pages below and know your legal rights while dealing with the CA.

Help! I pulled my experian account and disputed an Ameritech report for over $3,000. i have never done business with this creditor. The results of the investigation stated "reviewed". On the detailed report after the investigation it no longer appears. However, Midland continues to call me and are very NASTY! What to do??
