Steps to be taken by Identity Theft victims

Here is a listing of the steps that needs to be followed after identity theft:
1. Report to the Police & Sheriff's departments.
2. Put fraud alerts on your Credit Files by calling the CRAs.
3. Call your Creditors if your credit cards were stolen.
4. Inform your banks if were checks were stolen.
5. Order a new ATM card if it was stolen.
6. Inform the passport office.
These actions would help you to protect yourself from the liabilities of false debts in the future.

I have always asked people to follow similar steps in case of identity theft. I always advice people not to take these important steps casually; these are must and will help greatly against the fraud.
