Hi forum friends!

The moment we've all been waiting for has arrived! Not only did I just interview well with TruGreen-ChemLawn and am about to be hired, but my current place of employment Protocol Recovery Services, is closing it's Pensacola office. It will be official on March 24th.
The company is offering transitional help, such as letters of recommendation, resume help, unemployment coverage, and higher incentives for those who want to stay with the company but commute to either Atlanta or Panama City, there will be no Great Depression for those of us at the office.
Now I finally have something more positive and dignified to work with. Lawn conditioning, I remember how that stuff flew off the shelves at Home Depot. I have no doubt that this is a good beginning for my Marketing career. It also feels so good not to have to be a collector anymore! :D

Yes yes yes!!! I just knew that you would get out of there! How funny that they are helping you guys out with letters of recommendation and such, I guess they didn't have any idea that you were already interviewing for other jobs! LOL!! Good for you Ari!!

Hi guys! The second interview went rockin'! I've got the job! My manager (who is only 22) would like me to start this coming Monday, but he understands my intent to go gracefully from Protocol in spite of the heckling and the ass-hat I recieved this morning!
My boss called me into his office and ripped me a new one yet again! He attacked my work ethic because I got up to wash the coffeepot so it could be used to heat tea water for everyone, and while I was up I made a bathroom run. To him that's too many breaks, never mind that I don't take 15 minute breaks because I don't smoke or go to vending machines.I was also attacked for spending more time skiptracing than calling people who have already heard my voice on their answering machine many times and it is unlikely they will call back. Never mind that I was trying to find new money for the company before it closes its doors. I left his office feeling heckled, insulted, and harassed. How do you like that? A collection manager harassing his own collector!
Anyway, the Pensacola branch of TruGreen-Chemlawn services an area that covers a 45 minute driving radius around the office, so it touches into Alabama and Georgia a little bit. The company pays for gas and I can write off mileage and car maintenance.
I really should start Monday. Both my husband and the hiring manager at ChemLawn share the same opinion that my boss's attack on me and even on ChemLawn was very unprofessional and that I should have just quit on the spot.
I can barely contain my excitement!

Ari,
I was a HR manager for many years, and the one thing I aways admired, was those who wanted to work out a notice at thier current job. When someone leaves my employment and tells me that they cant give notice, because thier new employer said that they needed them now,its really makes me wonder about thier work ethic. But in your case Ari,you should not feel any remorse in leaving without notice. If you are being harassed and unappreciated by your boss,he deserves nothing from you.You deserve better, your boss deserves what he gets.

Alright! That's a third person who concurs!
It's such a case of mixed feelings, mostly because the manager can be so unpredictable. One moment he's gregarious and humouring the entire office, next moment we're all getting chewed out and guilt trips. I was treated with generosity and hospitality upong my arrival at the agency, recently I've been getting ding'd for something or another just about every day!

Ari, Since the law requires no notice, you are obligated only by your own loyalty and sense of duty. From what you have described, you owe them neither. Ask your self this...if at some point prior to your getting a new job they had decided to fire you.. would you have been given 2 weeks? one week? You owe them nothing, and as should not feel obligated to give them more than you would expect them to give you. I have been on all sides of this issue from the employer and employee side and all that really matters is that you do it with class. Politely pack up your things, and say this is it. i am done, haev a nice life goodbye.

good luck

Thank you, I officially begin February 20. I'm actually supposed to hang in there at the CA until Feb 23 per my two week notice, but they're about to close anyway so what are they going to do if I
**** in, fire me? Monday I'll be a sport and go in, Tuesaday which is Valentines Day, one of me and my hubby's anniversaries, we have plans so I'll just **** in. If that causes a problem, looks like I get a week to collect myself before I begin with ChemLawn. I expect my new job to be like a sprinting gazelle as opposed to the giant lumbering elephant that is my current job. I am optimistic though! :)

Not at Protocol! The day drags by agonizingly slow. I have half a mind right now to send them an e-mail stating my intentions not to even bother with the remaining two weeks and state my reasons why, including all the humiliation, heckling, and insulence I've endured, and my discomfort in calling a debtor who is completely destitute.
To quit now would give me time to reflect, calm down, and gear up for my new and exciting prospect.

I'm normally the kind of guy that says you need to give proper notice. However in this case, Why? You are leaving that industry for good, and if they are harassing you like that now, chances are you won't get a very favorable reccomendation from them for a future job anyway ( and probably won't wnat to use them as a reference anyway ).

Save your sanity and good nature, and get out now! They are closing the office anyway, a few more weeks of you being there watching everything go down the drian isnt going to save anything.

Embark on your new Career and new adventures! Live life to its fullest, and leave knowing you did the best job you could and you did it legaly and ethically. Know that you probably helped many people out with their financial problems along the way, or at least enabled them to beleive there are those out there in that business that actually do care about the people they are working with, and doing thier job the right way .

Listen to your husband and get out now!

Good luck Ari, please let us know how the new job is going!

Well Ari, it might be time to just get out of there and take some time to chill before the new job starts. That's what I did at my last job...forget the two weeks, I couldn't stand it anymore so I didn't last that long. I bet that would make you feel tons better, and you would be better prepared for what is coming ahead! Just my thoughts on the subject :) Whatever you decide to do, we are here for you, so keep us updated!

I appreciate the moral support, I did just make good on my thought. i sent the compnay an e-mail stating my intentions to not show up on Monday and I clearly stated why. I included my frequent feeling of being humiliated and insulted. I also closed the letter stating that I don't want any response from them if it is meant to incite a debate. I'm just not having that.
I'm here for you guys as well. This forum became my baby. my pet project, and all of you became my friends.

Ari,

I'm glad to hear that you won't be going back to your old job. No one deserves to be treated like that. It doesn't surprise me that they are shutting their doors if they treat their employees like that. Good luck with your new job. I'm sure that you will do great. Trugreen is a great company to work for. I have some friends who work there in my area and have tried to recruit me LOL! Enjoy the week off with your hubby. It sounds like you need it.!

Mishele, I'm sure they had the best of intentions in mind when they tried to recruit you. TruGreen-ChemLawn won me over with generous base pay, a really sexy bonus structure on top of it, and the kind of schedule that lets me sleep in a little in the morning, enjoy a workout, study some, and then take the time to plan my workday. It's an ideal beginning for someone who has an Associate's degree, and currently studying for a Bachelor's.
