So, what's everyone do here for work? I mean ya dont' have to give ur co name or anything personal... just ur occupation.
I work for a local builder as his admin assistant. I tweak the new house plans, get the job set up and ready to go, hire all subs, then supervise it as it goes along... plus all the paper work involved from beginning to end.
We build custom homes in a gated community.
I love my job!

I'm obviously a submarine sailor. I'm a submarine radioman to be exact. I'm on my final tour now, have to retire next year. I really miss being on a crew, there is nothing like it in the world. I'm scared to death to retire, not because I'm afraid of finding a job, but because I don't just want a job. I want to love what I do. I'm not sure I can ever find anything else that I'll love as much as being a submariner.
In the Navy I've also been an instructor (Master Training Special ist) , an ROV pilot (remote operated vehicle), Technical Advisor (best job ever), and everything in between. I've also peeled potatoes, scrubbed toilets and swabbed decks. I'm going to miss it all. I really love being a radioman. When I joined the Navy, all our messages were on paper. I learned how to type on a teletype, and I could copy 16 words per minute morse code. Now it's all IP this and server that. I've had to keep up, but I still miss the old days.
These days they've got me in a communication center. It's boring, because it doesn't get underway. But I still get to communicate with submarines (surface ships, coast guard units and shore units also), so it's almost like being at sea.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I retire, but I hope it's something I can enjoy.

Pyb, I think that is an awsome job. My first major in college was nursing..until I worked in the hospital ER as an orderly and a group of friends were in a car accident and came in. That was the end for me. Could not take it. Later, I went and became an EMT. I worked with the Fire Department for about two years.

Fins are you the company bouncer? I see you kicking people out the door with your big boot.

I am a controller of a finance company. On one hand, I manage all our finances and accounting. On another hand, I review credit application and make loan approvals. With my third hand, I manage our collectors and handle our severely delinquent accounts and chargeoffs/legal/repos. And with my feet, I have to maintain our licenses and prepare reports for the state DFI.

I had a great run, though. My hamstring really felt good today. It was only 15k, though...I don't think it would've held out much longer. I really only plan on three or four more races this season, then I'll have about 3 and a half months to rehab. Sooo..I will be healthy for the Detroit next year...Then hopefully the Boston.

I have high respects for the H/R-Payroll ladies. Our company used to be a lot bigger (like 80+ employees), and we had an H/R lady. Employees always blamed everything on her for any little thing, and so she had to deal with irate employees all day long. In reality she's just doing her job.

We sold off a large portion of our company and most of the employees went with it. I stayed to manage what was left, and have about 5 employees. I got stuck doing payroll...

I screwed up one day and an employee only got paid for 1 week instead of 2. OMG what a hissy fit I had on my hands. So instead of recalculating taxes and all that stuff, I just cut an "advance" check equal to a week's net pay for the employee. On the next payroll I paid him for 3 weeks and then deducted the advance. Well, 3 weeks pay on a bi-week schedule put him in a higher tax bracket for that pay-period and took out almost an extra $300 in taxes. Despite explaining how he would get it all back at the end of the year when he filed his taxes, he didn't care and almost quit over it... so I ended up just giving him a "bonus" of that amount to make him happy. But geez how people get so upset over an honest mistake. So like I said, I have a lot of respect for you, Fins!

Only 15k??? That was great! I am like Bossy...I USED to run and do aerobics, etc. Now I'd be lucky if I could make it 1K much less 15k! :-)
I'm glad your hamstring held out. I've actually had a hamstring injury, and I have problems with my sciatic nerve, too. This is the reason I don't run anymore. It always irritates my nerve so badly that I end up in bed for the next few days icing it down.
So now, I just eat all day! (Hence the 10lb weight gain from last year!!! ) I was trying to get it off, but now, I figure it is too close to the holidays, so it will AGAIN be my New Year's Resolution! :-)
