I'm dealing with Asset Acceptance, LLC. They are trying to collect on an old debt from 1988. I sent a validation letter. I'm not even sure if this is mine.

They sent me a letter back with an account statement which is printed on their letterhead with the following
Statement Date
Prior Account Number
Prior Creditor
Name
Principal
Interest
Balance
Last Transaction Date

So now I need to know where to go from here. I have checked and if this is my debt, the SOL has run out a long time ago. So far they haven't tried to mess with my credit report.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Julie

Well,I was gonna say to tell them that is nowhere near validation until I seen your date(1988) :shock:.Send a full cease & desist letter stating even if there was a slight chance of it being yours,it is out of statute for court action or reporting.Inform them you do not wish to hear from them ever again!

Thank you everyone for your replies.

This is what I changed in the above letter;

"This is to request you to CEASE and DESIST from your efforts of collecting debt payments on the above referred account. I do not recognize this debt. According to state laws, the statue of limitations has expired."

Good to go?
