My in-laws have given us money to survive for the past 6 months until my husband got a job. A fairly good chunk of $ although it only allowed us to eat and keep our house. I am planning on doing a chpt. 7 - my lawyer didn't see this money as an issue at all. It is not regular income and not reportable to the IRS as such. It can be seen as a "gift" or loan. He told me in fact to not pay any of it back before filing the bankruptcy as I should not be making any expenditures beyond basic expenses. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Are you depositing a check in your account? I only ask because you might be questioned where the money is coming from if its beyond a certain amount. (i don't know the specific $ amount a "gift" is limited too.)
