How do I get a collection agency to quit calling my daughter. She is only 14 years old and to my knowledge to only one she owes money to is her brother, but this DCI collection agency calls her cell phone 5 or 6 times a day. I have told them to stop calling, but they refuse.

Use the sample letter to write the cease and desist letter. Send it through CMRRR.

If they don't stop their collection attempts after receiving your written notification, report them to the AG's office as well as to the BBB and the FTC. You also have the rights to file a case on charges of FDCPA violations.

Technically your child can not be entered into any sort of agreement. Since you are the parental guardian, have you inquired as to what the debt is for? If it's a credit card you authorized/co-signed, then I am surprised they haven't started contacting you. Do you have more details on this matter? Depending on the situation, would determine your course of action.

Mike
