I just received a rude phone call from allied interstate stating that I have two options. 1) Pay 10 Percent of what I owe to them and then pay the whole balance off next month or 2) Pay the balance off the whole thing this month. Either way, I can't afford it. I explained my situation telling them I was in a tight bind, but they said "we're not customer service...we're a collection agency". They are not willing to work with me. AMEX is not longer dealing with the account and I have no idea what to do. Should I write AMEX and the collection agency a letter stating explaining my situation hoping they can work out a reasonable payment plan? I still have two other collection agencies that I have to work with, so I'm hoping this advice can apply to the others. Please help!

Relax! You need to find out some info about these accounts before you make your payment arrangements. Do you remember when you last paid on this account? You can collect this info directly from Amex if they have not sold off the account. If your file is still with them, they will accept payments from you and you won't have to work with the CA.

allied interstate must validate your debt in writing with complete information. I understand they are using their scare tactics while collecting the money from you. Don't make any payment before you have checked the SOL period on this account. In case, if the statutes have expired, one single payment will renew the legal collections from the beginning. Send a debt validation letter through US certified mail to Allied Interstate. This proves your first part of the actions taken to resolve this matter legally. Once you get the info, review the debt details thoroughly.

I hope you are able to work out something directly with Amex and get the account info. Allied Interstate is famous for their illegal collections and everyone is complaining against them. File your complaints with the local AG's office. Using scare tactics during collections is not allowed under the federal laws and Allied Interstate is known for breaking the federal laws. You will get more information about them in this link

They are a bunch of a**holes... broke every law in the state of CA. Can't wait to sue them and particularly Michael Purcel (persell) the agent in question. He deserves to die... and he will.
