How old is the CC debt? If it already past the SOL, then paying this debt will most likely cause the activity period on the account to be re-aged and reported to the credit bureaus. Charge-offs/bad debts come off reports after 7 years, as you probably know, but if the account shows new activity, your 7 years is going to start all over again. Has National Processing sent you a validation of the debt in writing? If not, ask for one. You are not obligated to do anything until you receive the debt validation.

These are some of the illegal means for which the debt collectors are very famous, especially if they don't have your file. Definitely get your debt validated before you make a payment on the account they claim to have. You never know your money might even go into their pocket.

Can they even collect this debt?
