We have been getting calls from West Asset Mgmt (Stockton, Ca) for several months about a dept we do not owe. A couple of weeks ago, I wrote to the California BBB and also wrote a letter (registered/certified) to the Company asking them to stop calling. I have never received anything back regarding this letter, so I’m assuming they refused to open it. Anyway the calls continue on a daily bases. Does anyone know what my next step should be? We don’t have much money for a lawyer. Thanks John

The debt collector violated the federal laws by calling after you sent the cease and desist letter. You have made the legal move from your side. The judge will question the debt collector why your cease and desist request was not followed. They can't get away with the excuse by not opening your letter. The company will compensate you with the damages including court costs and fees after you won the case.
