What can I do and how do I keep from having my business checking account from being seized, as well. If this happens I simply won't have a home.
Check with the local county if this collection agency has filed
Check with the local county if this collection agency has filed a case against you. I assume they are just sending you fake papers. If it is real, you would have received summons from the court. Check for any court date if you are asked to show your presence.
You have no idea about the account for which Mel Harris and Associates is collecting. Use the federal laws and get the debt validated in writing. Without the info given to you in writing, you don't have to send your payments. You have to make sure from the beginning that your payments will be going to the right place and towards a valid account. Sometimes, collectors call the consumers for disputed or invalid accounts.

I am not real sure on how you would go about finding out why you never received any notice, but someone else on here might. Pesonally, my first move would be to consult my lawyer, especially if you have a business to worry about.
Mel Harris
I had to deal with Mel Harris. They are set of attorneys that buy debts for penny on the dollar and try to sue and/**** your account with out any proof. They took me to court after they black my bank account illegally. They claimed they sent someone to my house and gave false information they never came to my house because I was in another country on vac at the time. Go to your county civil court and ask them to place the case back on the calender to be reviewed by judge. I will bet they dont have any paper work. They got a big suprise from me I had certifed letters I sent to them and they never responded this was prior to going to court. So anything you do send it certified always and bring you paper work to court
