Hello, I have an old Sprint bill that is now in collections with allied interstate for $421.38. I recieved a single payment settlement offer of $294.97. Should I take it or not. Ive done this this before with a car and years later when i tried to get another car it looked as though i hadnt paid off the debt on my credit report. If i take the settlement offer what type of documentation should i ask for so that the debt will be settled on my credit report? Or could i bypass them all together and pay sprint directly with the full amount??

Get in writing from Allied Interstate that they will be marking your account as "PIF" to the creditor and the bureaus after you have paid the settlement amount. You need to be confirmed that AI has your account information. They need to show you the name of the creditor, the principal amount and the interest calculation along with the settlement proposal.

It is your choice whether you want to pay directly to the Sprint. Make a proposal if they are willing to offer you any discount.
