if i pay RJM Acquisitions, will they remove it from my credit report?

I received a collection notice from RJM Acquisitions. It was saying that I owe WAMU about $200. I didn't owe anyone money. So I contact them and I found out that account is a joint account, and the other person was my EX. So I guess I might have signed up an account with him, but just never used it. So I told RJM Acquisitions, I would pay for it, if they remove it from my credit report. They agreed they will. So my question is, what can I do to be 100% sure that they are going to remove it after I pay them?
Thank you for help!

Do a search for Pay for Delete. You want the agreement in writing in advance of payment. If you have a signed agreement and they do not delete, sue them for breach of contract.

I am curious about this because I just received a settlement offer letter, wherein they do state on the paperwork the item will subsequenty be removed. Since it's on their junk style letterhead, would one suggest a seperate Pay for Delete type confirmation still before agreeing to make any payment on the settlement being offered? Your help is appreciated.

I have the same "stock" letter. I sent them the specifics for the delete and they replied with another stock letter that said they would delete. BUT i requested that it will not be sold to another agency and they havent added that statement, also they said they will delete on TU and EXP but nothing about EQ. I dont believe they report to EX but I am afraid when I pay them they will start ! lol.
I am probably going to call them, I know the advice is not to but I have before and can handle them....i talk just as fast and play verbal hardball just as well. :-)

Sean C did you get a response from RJM Acquisitions? I also have an account with them and I'm ready to pay it but would like to request deletion from my credit reports prior to making payment. Just want to know the proper way of handling this matter. Thanks!

I was recently sent the same type of letter. By them buying my debt was my old debt with compass bank removed from my credit report? Or if by paying RJM does it remove both? Please help, I'm clueless!

Folks--NEVER PAY that collection agency.....at least, never pay them unless they validate the debt. I dealt with RJM myself before, on two occasions. Both times, they were trying to collect for Columbia house, when I never had a CH membership. Not only that, but the little info they were claiming to have put these so-called debts so far outside the statute of limitations I almost died laughing when they told me. Seriously--that really happened, I laughed all over them on that phone call.
GET THEM TO VALIDATE--do not pay them, dont agree to pay them, NOTHING until they validate. They are known for buying up junk debts that are beyond the statute or not at all documented. Force them to prove their case.

I have to agree; back before I know better, I agreed to pay a CA an agreed amount and they said they would remove the item from my CR. So, after they got my payment I said so now you will remove item from my CR, right? and I was told no, it will remain and have al teh late payments and only show as paid, but to a lesser agreed amount and would remain for some 4 or 5 years... which it did. UGH.
