You should also send the dispute to the credit reporting agency(ies) on whose report(s) this alleged debt may show up. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com to get your free yearly copy if you haven't already done so.

Well, if you really want to go on the warpath and fight this company every step of the way, then hold off on disputing with the CRA's until after you have gotten the receipts back from your DV letters to the CA. That way, if they verify and update with the CRAs they have just violated 3 times (if it is done with all 3) due to continued collection activity.
This is known as a 'one-two punch'. It gives you some negotiating power if you have a CA hounding you and they have violated. You could end up suing THEM.
