My wife got a call from afni collections regarding a bill that they said was from Verizon that was dated several months after we moved from where that phone service was. When my wife told the woman to send her a detailed validation she was told that all the law required was the total. Well thanks to this site my wife knows better. Then she wanted my wife to go to a "grocery store" to receive a fax. Yeah right.
I went on line and look what I found. Holey Moley!
Check out this link about them.
budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/AFNI.htm or go to budhibbs.com and click on the list of agencies to avoid. This bunch is one oh the worst.
Big junk debt scam of afni collection agency. It was no coincidence that they tried to change the date. Statute of limitations had run out on this in a few months ago if she owes it at all. I am getting tired of sending validation letters to afni collections but here we go again.
Beware of afni collections scam! This is a huge scam by a company that apparently is trying to climb out of thier own financial mess!

T-Mobile and AFNI are both scum-bag operations. They prey on the people. I hope this economy wipes them both out.

AFNI has been calling me like crazy the past month and a half, everymorning my phone rings between 8 and 830...but I just noticed that they recently showed up on my crecit report saying the date opened on the account is 1/01/09, even though it's for a 7 year old Tmobile bill they're trying to get money for...any thoughts on how this will affect me? or what I should do? Thanks in advance!

i have dealt with these nasty people before - for phone service i never had! i chalked it up to being part of my identity theft case, and added it to my police report, etc (they never reported me on my credit reports and left me alone since than) but now reading this stuff, i am not sure..

So, I received a letter out of the blue from AFNI stating I owned over $1k to T-Mobile. I did at one time have an account with T-Mobile, but I know that I honored my full contract with them, and I never received any correspondence from them after the fact. This had to be 6 plus years ago, so I sent a full DV letter asking for full details proving why they are claiming I owe this amount.

Within about three weeks, I finally received a "statement" that does in fact have my address at the time as well as my old phone number, seemingly from T-Mobile for the full amount they are claiming that I owe. Which at the bottom states, "This image was generated using a template provided by T-Mobile and your most recent billing data."

They included nothing that I asked for, which included a copy of the original contract, a summary of charges that amount to this ridiculous amount, complete payment history, fees & interest that may have been tacked on, etc.

What should I do at this point? There is no way I am paying them anything without detailed proof from the original creditor, especially when I know I completed my contract with T-Mobile. Can I contact T-Mobile directly, would they be able to provide me with any definitive details at this point, or would they force me to deal directly with AFNI? Should I send a second DV letter? Unfortunately I didn't keep any old statements to prove this. I appreciate any advice, thank you in advance.

there are only certain states that have a statute of limitations on collecting a debt and chances are none of you live there. perhaps you should learn to read. statute of limitations refers to credit reporting and taking someone to court. NOT collecting a bill.

Like many other people here, I just received a settlement offer letter from AFNI for a T-Mobile acct that I never had. I live in Florida and was told by AFNI that the acct was from 2002. When I told them that I never had a T-Mobile acct they said that they had no other info for me. What exactly do I need to do at this point to make sure it is not on my credit report when I refi my home in October?

We also received a letter stating my husband had an outstanding Verizon debt. They had the last name right but not the first name. They also sent it to my son's address not my husband. We called Verizon and found that the # was for an address we have not lived at for over 10 years and that it had been sold to a collection agcy. They also said we had not outstanding debts in either my husband or my name. The letter from AFNI said the debt amount was $324.00, but they would accept a payment of $81.00. Quite a big difference. Anyway, what is the "SOL" on something like this. Also, we have no record of ever having the phone # the show on this letter. What should we do?

AFNI called me and left a message to call back saying they are trying to collect a debt. As far as I know I don't owe anyone anything that is past due. I have not received any collections letters. I called back to find out what they are talking about but since I would not verify who I am they wouldn't give me any information. Should I verify that I am who they are trying to reach so that I can find out if there is some obscure debt that I don't remember?

We closed out our account about three years ago and never received any thing from Verizon saying we owed anything. Then out of the blue we started getting Phone calls from AFNI requesting payment. I requested a itemized bill from them showing the VERIZON charges, never got it. We did not Know about sending a validation letter and now the 30 days have gone by and I noticed AFNI and AFNI Bloom showed up on our credit report. Is there any thing we can do know?

I am very confused, I just received a letter in the mail from my credit monitoring company stating that a derogatory item had been added to my credit report, and it is from AFNI, Inc. I am very confused about this. What steps do I need to take in order to figure this out, and get it off my credit report? Can anyone help me with this, please?

It seems that this company is trying to collect old debts from Verizon. I would send them a debt validation letter. Make sure the debt is not past the statue of limitations and is not already off your credit report. I got a bill from the a few weeks ago for $30. So I sent them a D/V letter. you can get on from them this web site. I know in pa the SOl is 4 yrs and I had not lived at the address since 2000. I got a letter back from the yesterday with a computer print out with only a $30 which is not valid proof of debt and saying pay this. My response to them will be to them Past SOl 1st off. 2nd this is my proof With copy of my last bill from Verizon when i left with balance of $0. I will be writing the credit boards to get this off them.

For anyone still viewing this thread to read-up on Afni and their collection letters, I want to say that I just got off the phone with a rep who attempted to confirm personal information associated with the recipient on the letter (my wife). The information they had (last four of social, addresses, and tel number) were no where near the correct information. With that said and confirmed, the rep stated she would take my wife's information out of their system, and that we should disregard the collection notice. Take everything I said with a grain of salt, but hopefully this is the end of the line for collection notices received by my wife.

Statue of limitation refers to the amount of time a collection agency is allowed to seek legal action on a debt. it's usually seven years. Being in active collections is completely different. You can be in active collections until the debt is paid or resolved by other means.

I am so glad that I trusted my gut and googled "afni". I too recieved a collection notice from this agency stating that I owed a debt of $425.from a delinquint account dating back to 1993. Mind you at that time Verizon was not even a legitamate service carrier. At that time it was Bell Atlantic.I am obviously on of thousands of peopele that this company is attempting to scam. But heres the thing, Verizon is allowing this agency to use their name in order to collect on bogus phone service debts. How is the federal govt.allowing this? Verizon is the big cog behind the little wheel. FYI,I went online to cantact this company stating that I had no recollection of any such bill and that I would be disputing it. I recived a letter from them within 2 weeks saying that they had investigated the account and that the account had been closed. NO KIDDING! Also what really promted me to look into this is that on the letterhead the address was Bloomberg, IL, but the letter was closed with the new york city dpt of consumer affairs licensing number. Something about that just didn't jive with me. By the way I believe that Verizon is just as scandolous as afni. It just so happens that 4 months ago Verizon had to credit the same amount of $425 for over charging my for my wireless service. Whats Really going on???

First I would like to state that the statements that have been made about afni for the most part are incorrect on this website.

So I got the letter, and went to their (afni collections) website to dispute the claim. After filling out all the necessary info, this is the text I received -

Session Expired

Due to lack of activity or transaction completion, your session has expired. Please click the continue button in order to re-enter your account number and Last 4 of SSN.

How old is this debt? It wont clear off your credit report infact in will re-age the debt and stay on your report longer. AFNI is one of the worst!!!!! I would send a DV letter and make them prove they even own the debt also check to see if they are licensed in your state. If they cannot validate the debt you should be able to have it deleted from your CR. Hopefully someone else will jump in here and correct me if I am wrong.

Afni has come after me for a Cingular cell phone I had almost 7 years ago now. However, they report to the credit bureau constantly and I notice that makes it later and later for the debt to fall off of my bureau. What about the original SOL? That does not seem to stand for anything. If they keep reporting it, it just starts over again.

If you're positive that you never did business with Verizon, then send them a cease-and-desist letter. Basically, tell'em to get bent. If you have any doubt whatsoever that they might have something, a DV letter would be the wiser course of action.

When was the last time you used that phone, or made a payment on the account? And what state do you live in? I need that to check the SoL. There's lots of things we can help you do to deal with these cretins. Gimme the info I need, and I'll get back to you.

I am currently having the "pleasure" of dealing with this scummy place. They have recently been calling me reguarding a supposed debt that I have with Tmobile back in 2004. (which was paid off) They keep telling me I owe 100.00 but they are willing to cut my debt in half to 50.00. When I spoke w/this guy on the phone he KEPT trying to get me to tell him if I will pay this off this month..and HOW I will be paying for it. I don't think he liked it that I kept repeating myself saying "Well, I'm not agreeing to anything until I call Tmobile to verify any of this.." He was trying to convince me that Tmobile will just refer me back to Afni and that they will not have my records anymore...& than AGAIN with the "Will you be paying this off this month?? and IF you pay it off how will you be paying for it?" I was on the phone with him for seriously almost 10 minutes...and he kept going in circles. I will be sending them a letter this week.
What a joke.
oh! and JUST to make sure my records were right, I checked my Credit Report..and if I had a debt with Tmobile it would of been on there...and NADA :)

Wow... I just received a letter from AFNI and it claims I owe $2,161 for AAA Texas. When I saw that I freaked. I immediately searched this company online and this is what I find. Endless sites and forums saying BEWARE! I'm going to give them a call tomorrow morning just to see what happens. I am more worried that my credit will be messed with. IF YOU RECEIVE A LETTER OR CALL FOR AFNI, DO NOT SEND THE, ANY MONEY. CALL AND SITUATE THE "CLAIM" AND KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT.

Hang on there, Rocx! If you want to call them, you certainly can. Do you want to put yourself in a position to be screamed at, manipulated, or tricked? There's a better way.

Send them a demand for validation of the alleged debt. There are sample debt validation letter templates available on this site. Pick one, and customize it to fit your situation. Mail it out CM/RRR, and keep the green postcard when it comes back. That's your proof that they got the letter.

I just got a call from AFNI about two bills I know are really mine. I simply didn't have the money to pay them at the time and I still done. The bills are $800+ and $200+. AFNI offered to settle the $800 one for $50 and the other for half. I bulked at the half and she offered $50 for that as well. The last time a collection agency offered me a great deal to settle a debt (on an unrelated debt) they didn't cancel the debt and just applied what I paid them to the debt as a whole so I still owed several hundred dollars and am still being hounded about it. The current agency wont cancel it off because I don't have a letter of cancellation for the debt or a letter with the offer to cancel. So I told AFNI to send me the offer in writing and she said she would. What I want to know is, do I even have to pay. Both debts are over 7 years old with no payments the entire time. I dont know what my rights are regarding the SOL.

To all who have posted questions take notes. Collection agencies count on the fact that you don`t know your rights. Go to the internet and read up on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Once scam companies like AFNI realize that you know your rights under Federal Law, they tend to back off. If they don`t, have fun and sue their asses. But remember, in order for you to sue, you must follow the law to the letter.

We received a letter from Afni, Inc. stating that we owed money to Qwest for an invoice in 3/05. I called Qwest to verify the account number wasn't valid. When I called Afni to request verification, I got hung up on. I immediately looked them up online, and couldn't BELIEVE the amount of complaints against them! They won't be getting ANYTHING from us!
