Allied Interstate is leaving a New Number!
Date: Wed, 12/20/2006 - 16:32
allied interstate is now leaving me
1 866 577 3917
as a place "a representative will assist you."
Do I have to use that number, or should I try one of the several, local-looking numbers available here on Dcc and other sites (Bud Hibbs, Rip-off Report)?
I've received their message on my machine yesterday and today, and have transcribed it to my collection communication log. I can post it here if it would be informative to anyone.
Thanks and Best Wishes

Is Allied Interstate giving out any information about the debt you have with them? You should make them validate the debt for your reviewing the account.

Thanks for the reply.
Are you kidding me? I don't even know for sure who they're looking for at this phone number, which I've only had for 18 months.
As soon as I have the time to sit on hold for eons waiting for "a representative [to] assist" me, I'll see what they want. I'm looking at it as a potential Zen exercize and personal challenge as to keeping a cool, professional demeanor in the face of...whatever (but from what I've read, I expect "whatever" to be less than pleasant!)
Dang straight I will make them validate the debt in writing!
I'm not sure what you mean by the "for your reviewing the account" part of your reply, though. Maybe that once I've made them validate, I should review that? Definitely.
I am so glad I thought to ask "who ARE these people and why are they leaving only a company name and phone number on my machine--three times a day." Googled on allied interstate, found this site (bless you all!) and through it Bud Hibbs and Rip-off Report/Bad Business Bureau and a whole lot of other resources.
It's been the HECK of an education, that's for sure!

They contacted me and claim I owe 86.14 for a phone number we have not had for 6 years. They claim they have no other information and wanted our home address. I asked don't they have it since you are calling a=me at a different phone number. They said no they do an engine seach by name. We have never forgotten to pay our bills. Why isn't this on our credit report, and why is nothing sent to us. I think it is a scam.

It wouldn't surprise me if they're scamming. Do a search on this site for contact addresses and mail them a letter asking that they validate the debt in writing, and that they only communicate via US mail.
If all they have is a name and new phone number (from the web?!!) they're probably barking up the wrong tree. Can you get in touch with the phone company from when you did have that number and find out if they sold something off? If it's not on your credit report, I'd be surprised if it's legit--but do keep an eye on it.
Allied is well known for calling the wrong person with the same or a similar name and then harassing whoever answers the phone.
Turns out Allied was calling my number looking for someone (of the opposite gender) with my last name and first initial. DUH! How much intelligence does it take to just go phishing from the white pages? Anyway, I did call back, got a rep right away and she said she'd take my number out of the system. So far so good. Between that and signing up with the Do Not Call registry, it's been quiet around here!

it sure seems Allied gets their share of posts around here. Hopefully the AG's offices in various states will start investigating when people file complaints against them.
Isn't that do not call registry great? I used a cell phone for a couple of years to save money on phone service. When I found out the local phone company was offering comparable service for the same amount or less, I had a landline phone installed at home. The same day, I received 3 telemarketing calls. I don't get that many phone calls - the majority were just telemarketing! So, I put my number on the do not call list and it's been quiet since then! :D

NO idea why it took me so long to sign up, though. Maybe it felt like something useful to do instead of worrying about the messages from Allied.
