Turns out they called my Sister , who's married and has a different last name.
I wonder how the heck they got her number ? She was pissed they called her and my BIL says I gave them the number !

What a bunch of scumbags.....
Did they give your sister any of the juicy details? If so, document it. Third-party disclosure is a violation of federal law. You may want the documentation later, if you decide to file suit.

No , they didn't give any specifics.I'll really **** with this collector now because I had spoken with him about a week or so ago and told him to be on the lookout for my DV letter.I usually wait 2 weeks after I receive the dunning letter before I send my DV letter.

Why wait? :?
I figure that anybody who has the balls to send me a dunning letter should have something to back up his claims. So... Being the helpful sort of Wulf that I am, I want to offer them an opportunity to share that with me. So they get a custom-tailored version of JCEMT'S strong-arm DV letter. Usually in the next day's mail.

I know I've asked this before, and I still haven't gotten an answer to it yet. Why do CA's call everyone you know when they have your correct contact information? The purpose of contacting third parties is to find out contact information if they don't have it correct, not to tell all your personal business to these third parties! Many CA's today use it as just a normal part of the standard collection routine. Like they're going to shame you by calling all these other parties when they should be calling you. Many times this is the initial contact, not like you're not answering your phone or not returning their phone calls. I had a CA do this to me last week, which made me about as angry as I have ever been! Not only did they call my mother, leaving all my personal business on her answering machine but they called my phone about the same time and didn't leave a message. I saw their number in my caller ID which is how I knew they had called me, and my home phone number has been the same for several years. So any CA should have the correct contact information that any OC has! Add to that, the fact this was the first phone call I have received from this CA; I only got their letter a day or so before they called.
Man that just chaps my @$$!

Well.... Kinda.
Actually, do you remember the old Dr. Demento sketch 'Boot to the Head'? More along those lines.

That is exactly it. They will use any method to force a payment out of you, even shame you into paying. it is almost like standard operating procedure.

That's exactly it!
Every CA that has contacted me over the past year (and believe me there have been quite a few), has managed to also harass thirds parties about me too. And it hasn't been them trying to get contact information for me. As I already stated, they have the correct contact information for me as I have not moved or changed my phone number in several years.
I guess it's a mixed blessing I don't have a job as I would not even want to begin to have to deal with them harassing me at work or calling someone else within the company giving out my personal information. That would @$#% me off to no end!
I truly wish some of our CA insiders on this forum could shed some light on why, more often than not, this occurs!

Why?
Greed, lack of creativity, laziness, etc...
