I recieved a notice from an attorney about a pending wage garnishment. They listed an account # on the papers, yet I dont see any court file numers or case numbers. How can I really be sure this is a lagitimate court paper ? Lastly, The last page of the doucument states "This is an attempt to collect a debt. Is this just a ploy from the attorney.

Thanks for responding. I think its for an old bill, not sure though. It lists a company name but not the type or reson. I have not recieved service from this company in about 6 years. and thatwas for accupuncture that the state was paying for. From experience, accupuncture doesnt cost 1,300 bucks for two or three treatments. I am affraid to call the attorney listed on the pepers.

do as SOAPLADY advised and check your courthouse to see if a judgement was rendered against you before doing anything else.

Alright, I checked on line through the Minnesota Trial court Judgement search site. Entered my name three time to check for current and past judgements. Nothing came up. I also found in my papers a letter I recieved from the same attorney, That paper says at the top "Summons" yet there are no court Case #'s. Just an account # for the attorney. another question. Can attorneys mail out garnishment papers to your job with out official court documentation.

I am really concerned about this attorney and his approaches. My hours have been cut at work, and I am seriously considering cashing in my measly 401k, knowing full well that I would get very little back because of penalties. Also that I wouldnt get the money back for quite a while and I dont qualify for the hardship rules. I have already borrowed from it and can't borrow any more until I pay off the first loan.... Ugh.
