Whether it is a law office or a collection company, they are bound to follow the fdcpa laws and do fair collection practices. You must have the debt validated before making any payment agreement. If they try to intimidate you on the phone or use any kind of scare tactics, record their phone calls. Be aware of your state laws on recording. You must have a strong proof against them violating the FDCPA.

It seems they are making false threats and artificial deadlines. You can stop them from calling you by sending them a cease and desist letter. Send the letter via certified mail with a RRR. Date your letter and keep a copy of it. Once they receive your letter they can only call or write you to inform you that they are stopping their collecting efforts or they are planning to take a legal action against you ( which they would never take!!!!).
