Dell Financial Payment and Outside Collection Agency
Date: Fri, 10/10/2008 - 15:53
Hi Everyone,
Due to a death in the family and a temporary cut in hours, I fell behind on an account with Dell Financial Services. The last payment I made was in late August, but that was for the past due amount.
Last week I went online and set up payment for 10/17/08, for $170, which is half of what is past due. I figured I would pay that, then pay the other half on my next payday (10/31/08). That way I could get back on track.
However, all this week I noticed calls from various 800 numbers. They never left messages, and when I answered, no one responded. I did some research and found out they were from united recovery systems. Since I have no other past due bills, I am assuming they are calling about the Dell account.
But then when I checked my Dell account online, it shows on the bill that my priviledges were suspended. I also no longer have an available credit. But it shows the regular bill as if they are requesting payment, saying the entire past due amount is due on 10/28/08. It says nothing about the account being closed or charged-off.
My question is this, if Dell goes ahead and collects the electronic check payment I set up for the 17th, and then again on the 31st, will the collection agency still continue to attempt to collect the full balance? Or, should I cancel the payment for the 17th?
Does anyone have any experience with this or an idea about how this would work?
Thanks in advance.

First of all, NEVER NEVER ALLOW A CREDITOR ACCESS TO YOUR BANK A
First of all, NEVER NEVER ALLOW A CREDITOR ACCESS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!! You can now expect them to empty your account, if they have turned it over to a CA, you can expect the same, close that account and open a new one; send money orders for your payments.
