Hi All,

I am going to send out a debt validation letter to a collection agencies that contacted me over a debt (as an authorized user) the other day. All the debt validation sample letters I have found include having an account number. I do not have the account number and on my report this account is on the good side. They did tell me the debt was for chase na. As I said it shows on the good side so is this the account number I use? It says it was sold and transferred in 2003 so would it still be that account number?

Thanks. This debt really has me all upset. I never even knew it exsisted. They even gave me until today (called thurs.) to decide whether to settle or have them file suit. I can not even try to trace what this debt might be since there is no bad listing on it. What amazes me is they said they have been trying to contact me for months but yet they just showed up a few days ago under inquireies on my report.

well got out that debt validation letter and received back the return receipt. I had a friend who deals with debt collectors and he decided he was going to look through his computer at exactly who this Rubin and Yates was...real estate agents! They have a small office that deals with debt collection too. apparently they "work" for a bunch of private investors. My friend asked them several questions pertaining to my debt and who the rightful owner of this defaulted credit card was and they advised him that they could not release this information until they spoke with their supervisors first.
They also sent along my debt valdation letter to these investors or now owners of the debt. The guy on the phone did say it could be an old providian debt since they bought them out. This is a debt that is way past SOL. I even asked when I first contacted them if this was the debt they were talking about and thye said no. I had know by looking up the chase debt that they bought providians old debts. So evryone be careful. They will make the debt look current on your account and even change the account numbers, which I believe has happened to me.

When in doubt, punt.

For future reference: Most DV letter templates say something along the lines of "RE: Account #123-45-6". If you don't have the account number, replace that line with this text: "Re: Any and all business you may have with me." Means the same thing, and works just as well. If, at some future time, you find yourself explaining to a judge why you did it that way (doubtful, but possible), simply tell the nice judge that they refused to give you an account number when you asked. That'll make them look real good in court. 8^)

Authorized User = no financial responsibility whatsoever. Is this reported on your Credit Reports? Is so, dispute it. Then send a full cease comm to the CA. There's no point wasting your time on an AU account. That's the account holders responsibilty.

Yes, it is reported on the accounts in good standing part of my report but it does show a balance. The collection company is threatening to file suit against me over this account. I was told by my atty general even if I am only an authorized user it would depend on how the contract was written whether I would be help responsible.
I could not figure out where this debt came from and the account number was unfamiliar ( I was sent a dunning letter with it on and it matched the listing on an authorized user account). I sent a debt validation letter and recieved the return receipt yesterday. Now two questions..What do I do if they do not validate and what if they do and I am just an authorized user? I can not give more details because as I said I do not recognize the listing and do not see it on my hubby's report, which whom would have been the only person I would have been athorized on. Thanks for all your help.
