I received a message on my cell and at work from a Joseph stating he was trying to contact me about a check that I wrote and needed to verify some information with me for security purposes. I am not sure how to respond to this because I have not had a checking account in over a year. He sounds american and the caller id is from somewhat local area(about 1 1/2 hours away) with a call back #866-443-6985. I thought I would investigate a little before calling back since I have been having serious issues with scammers out of india harrassing me at work and on my cell and I am having troubles getting them to stop. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I got the same call and same letter. It is all a scam and let me tell you they are not showing up at your work they are bunch of idiots. They are a complete scam big time. I got one saying I owe Money and More, which first off I paid off and have all the proof. Second off they are no longer a company. They are a HUGE scam. Just ignore them. I am reporting them to my Attorney General office.

They are not a scam - they are (were) a company. However, they currently have a Cease and Desist order in the State of Nevada. They are not allowed to be operating. Contact the state of Nevada, and complain. Also document everything they tell you, and who you talk to. (even though those that answer, will not give a name, and those that do have a name are ficticious names, and several different people will answer the call using that name. Record all conversations you can with them. (I only talk to them on a landline on speaker phone so that I can record on my cell phone). You also need to make a complaint with the Fair Trade Comission ( I would then suggest you contact your Attorney General about it. It could be a valid debt, but do not acknowldege the debt to them, and demand proof of the debt (which they won't provide). They will use scare tactics that they are a legal firm, and that they are going to garnish your wages, they will charge you with a crime, etc. They have done it to me and the practice is all illegal. If they do not have a legal office in your state, you can put an order against them to stop contacting you, but make sure you have all the other stuff started (complaints, etc) and that you have a copy of the cease and desist order (it can be found online, again, on the state of nevada website). I can almost guarantee, if they end up actually send someone to court, take all of your documentation, and a copy of the complaints you have made, and a copy of the cease and desist order to show the judge. Again, it may be a vaild debt, which is just your bad luck, and should be paid off, but don't let them bully you or infringe on your rights.

They are located at
419 Stephanie St
Henderson, NV 86014

The address I got for them from another site is:
Frontier Fiancial Group
1291 Galleria Dr
Ste 170
Henderson, NV 89014-8635

I will use this address and the one provided above to send a DV letter as well as to file a complaint with the FTC and AG. Thank God for these forums....if I hadn't looked them up, I might have been scammed! I knew right away it was bogus. I haven't written any checks in a long time and have had no pdl in at least two years!

Thanks for the info. I did file a complaint against them with the BBB using the address they had on file for FFG. I will update the complaint.

I got a call from them also but no message or anything. If they are trying to collect for a payday loan, let me tell you. I had one that was not even in the US and when I told them to stop calling me at work they said they didn't ahve to becasue they are not in the US and don't have to follow our rules!

Just to let some of you know:

1) They cannot collect on a debt if they do not prove to you they own the account now and have original paperwork like signed contracts, anything with your signature, otherwise consider it bogus.

2) Request from the company a debt verification letter. They have 30 days to respond to you. If they do not furnish you with the verification and try to collect or report you to the CRA's, they are violating the law.

3) Never answer the phone from a number you do not recognize. This company seems to have a loop system that will have your area code attached. Don't answer.

4) The messages regarding a check you have written and need to verify for security purposes: It is a ploy to scare people into calling back thinking their identity was stolen.

5) The Dunning Letter: this letter is the collection company notice to you, not the actual verification of debt. This will not hold up in court as a verification. Google Dunning Letter and you will see the difference.

Do Not Trust These People They Are Scammers Praying On People Who Do Not Know Their Rights. Until you have the debt verification in your hand, they cannot collect on debt if you dispute it. Run your credit reports to make sure they are not reporting you. If they have and you sent a DV, ask where your $1000 is since they just violated the FCRA.
