I received a message on my cell and at work from a Joseph stating he was trying to contact me about a check that I wrote and needed to verify some information with me for security purposes. I am not sure how to respond to this because I have not had a checking account in over a year. He sounds american and the caller id is from somewhat local area(about 1 1/2 hours away) with a call back #866-443-6985. I thought I would investigate a little before calling back since I have been having serious issues with scammers out of india harrassing me at work and on my cell and I am having troubles getting them to stop. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

As I have said before, file a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau. It doesn't cost you anything, and they contact the entity you complain about very quickly. I have found that just filing a complaint will stop them from contacting you again.

I don't know what bbb you checked with, but i just checked and their rating is a f. The company is operating illegally and is violating several laws.

That's the whole point!!! Keep complaining about them and they will eventually shut down. The bbb contacts them everytime someone complains. As far as I know they have always had an F rating. Let's keep it that way.

Joseph from FF&G called my cell yesterday 7/26. Interesting enough - I don't use my cell for any business and the 4 creditors that I do business with all have the correct number to reach me. Joseph wanted to verify information from a check I've written.....Joey, I don't write checks to pay my bills - haven't done that since 2009 with a totally different cell number than the one you called me on. Scammers are smart - but I'm smarter! With his talent he could get a REAL JOB!!

I asked THEM to verify who they are and got hung up on. If that weren't proof enough (aside from the fact that I don't write checks very often), I checked here. DON'T BE FOOLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joseph called and left me a message about a check(same scam), i called him (whoever answered) they want my sister, i didnt give any info except this is my phone and not the person you named. The next day they called her supervisor, her HR dept and then her, she works for the state of CA. She paid off a payday loan 2 years ago and doesnt write checks either. Thanks for all the info she will be filing complaints and i will be blocking the number.

I too have received calls at work twice from a Joseph stating he need additional information about a check that I wrote. I figure it was a scam, but I called and made them tell me what this is for. It's concerning a Payday Loan. The first time I called, the individual hung up on me, I decided to call again and this rep was so incline on me giving him the telephone number that was left for me to call as well as my telephone number. I just politely hung up.

Two things come to mind here. One is that I was never given any kind of letter from them, and when I asked them to email it to me they never did. Its been almost 24 hours. The other thing that comes to mind is that they cannot garnish wages without a judgement being placed against me. Am I right about that? My lawyer said I should try and get a case number from them, and let her know if they come up with one or not.
I do not plan on paying these scum bags.
