I received a message on my cell and at work from a Joseph stating he was trying to contact me about a check that I wrote and needed to verify some information with me for security purposes. I am not sure how to respond to this because I have not had a checking account in over a year. He sounds american and the caller id is from somewhat local area(about 1 1/2 hours away) with a call back #866-443-6985. I thought I would investigate a little before calling back since I have been having serious issues with scammers out of india harrassing me at work and on my cell and I am having troubles getting them to stop. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I received a call as well about something a loan i got in 2007, bottom line they are totally disrespectful when they call. Rude, ignorant and just RUDE. They say they are in LAS VEGAs but who know, all i know is i get first adn last names and I will be posting a complaint myself. These people think they can say whatever they want to you on the phone and threaten you with there "lawyers" WHAT. They got alot of balls i hope this company is shut down. They probably do not harrass anybody in there own state, but i have all 6 numbers and names they gave me while calling and I will be putting them onblast... I'm sorry people like you and me have to deal with such ignorance from "supposedly professional companies". Maybe we need to right the president about there treatment of people.

I, too was informed by the name of a Mr. "Joseph" as well. He also told me the exact same thing, that he had a check in his office and he wanted alittle more information for security purposes. He tried to make it sound like I had money that was owed to me but I know how these con artists can be. So Joseph if you are reading this, contact me again, then I will pursue and you will be making phone calls behind bars. The lesson for you, Joseph is watch who you try and fraud!

To you, maybe we, consumer would pay our bills on time if you would leave us alone! Everyday you want to call, no, bother someone on their job, their home, personal events, possibly where ever you may be able to reach us and threaten us. You don't take the time out to find out why the consumer is having financial issues or why the consumer cannot pay back on time. DID YOU EVER THINK OF THAT? Instead of using all your time to threaten consumers or customers over the phone, why don't you focus that energy into programs to help the consumers or customers so that they can get out of debt without hassle and still have some financial stability to call their own. Instead you so called DEBT COLLECTORS want take our money and run with it. I know I used to be one and some day the rain will come down on your head, too. WATCH!!

I just had a call from "Joseph Thomas" from Frontier Financial Group. Are they a legit? I have been looking at post from other people on this thread and it seems like they also call your boss and your friends, is that legal? Do they have the right to do that? How do they even get their number?

I had a call from them today insisting I owe over $700 on an olllllllllllldddd Ace Cash Express PDL, which I had long ago paid off. They were extremely rude, left a msg on my voicemail at work, saying I needed to verify an address for them to "send legal papers" and then mentioned that "Rovo Law has already been retained to handle this matter." Little bit of googling sure came in handy. Rovo isn't a law office, it's their agency. Also... FFG is not (and never has been) licensed to collect. They've been busted in Nevada multiple times.

I decided to have a little fun with them. I sent an email to the mhall@frontiernv.com address (and any other address I could find after googling "@frontiernv.com" and picking all the ones that came up - and I CCd the Nevada Financial Institutions Department - the people who'd cited them before. FIDMaster@fid.state.nv.us

Basically a cease & desist, request to validate debt, verify their collection agency info & licensing info, ACH & wage assigment revoke - all rolled into one... LOL. Should be real interesting to see if they reply.

I have paid off a pay day loan from Check N Go. I paid off thru Frontier Financial Group (FFG). I just received a phone call today at my work from Allied Collections saying that I owe over $500 AND Check N Go still has it on their record that I owe them. I have documentation that it has been paid in full and I owe nothing. When will it stop??? They keep calling my house, my cell phone. I just want this all to go away.

You need to request proof of the debt in writing. This is get-out-of-debt 101. It is standard procedure. Send them all a letter saying you dispute the debt , and they need to send you proof of said debt. Many times this alone will stop their activity. Next you need to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and then with the State Attorney General's office. Unfortunately, these people keep coming around, thinking they can cash in on debts already paid. They use scare tactics to make you think you still owe money when you don't. Don't ever talk with them on the phone because they record what you say and will use it against you.

to the one with the we owe you reply - if they do not pay as they say they owe you then sue them the way they threaten all of us with these fake debts

the fact they say they owe you - i use as agreement that they do actually owe you money - so collect the hell out of it

They will never voluntarily give money back to you. The only way I ever got any money back was through legal action by the California Dept. of Corporations. They sued the PLC and I got my overpayment back. It also helped that I testified and brought copies of my bank statements to the court room. Don't be afraid to pursue these jerks through legal channels. They ARE there to help you combat these people.

I got the same call it is from a frontier Financial Group. They state this to get you to call back then they wont leave you alone. Have you had any pay day loans because more then likely this is what they are collecting on. They are rude and mean so be prepared. They will also threaten to take the matter to your county court.

In other words, they don't follow the debt collection laws. Ten years ago I signed on with one of those debt consolidation companies that advertised on television. They took all my money and did not pay my creditors. I ended up settling with all my creditors and those debts were written or paid off. However, some of them still turn up on "lists" as unpaid and companies like FFG try to collect on them. If you have paid off the debt they think they can collect on, make sure you file with the BBB and your state's consumer office.

Note: the company that took my money, Debticated.com, was taken to court via a class action suit. I was a part of the suit, but the court has not been able to collect the monies due the class members. I only received $25 from them after paying out hundreds of dollars. The court will continue to try to collect the money, but I doubt I will ever see it.

I have been receiving phone calls from a "Joseph" with Frontier Financial Group for months. He claims he has a check on his desk and needs additional information. Today he called and said "we need to make sure we even have the right person" in his message. I am sure this is for an unpaid payday loan. Back in November/December 2010, we took out a few payday loans, only to find out that they were illegal lenders. They wouldn't stop taking money out of our bank account so we had to close it out. However, this "Joseph" has also been calling our family members, leaving threatening messages that we MUST call them back. They have been asked not to contact us via phone (only by mail) and to stop harassing our friends & family. They don't care, they still continue to call. Today I made a complaint with the BBB because we are tired of the harassment.

It's good you filed with the BBB but you also need to file complaints with the Nevada Attorney General's office and your own state as well. I have filed complaints against FFG and this Joseph in Nevada and several other states. I also filed with the FCC regarding the spoofed phone numbers. I don't see how it can be legal for these folks to use these kinds of numbers. I did find out that SPRINT sells most of them and they appear as cell phone numbers with any area code the buyer chooses.

We finally got the calls to stop by telling them all calls we take are recorded, and that their calls and messages have been forwarded to the appropriate authorities. One friend was getting calls from them and has all their messages and conversations recorded as audio voicemails courtesy of Vonage and VOIP technology. I have all the recordings saved, so if requested I can produce them.

POED, I've been getting voicemails from this same guy named Joseph, I always screen all my calls and if I don't recognize the number I let it go straight to voicemail and then if it's someone I know or something legitimate then I will return the call.... So For the last several months Ive been getting voicemails every day or gwo from this Joseph guy who claims he is with this FFG and needs to talk to me about a matter that may or may not affect me, or the message will say they are still trying to verify some information on a check that was written for security purposes and that they aren't even sure if I am the right person or not that they need to talk to me and want me to give them a call so they can verify the information.... There are different messages this Joseph guy will leave on my voicemail and there's one or two more messages this guy will leave on my voicemail but I deleted all but a couple of his messages.... Anyway I know for positive 110% sure I haven't written a check for at least ten or more years.... and I havent even had a checking account, or had my name on a joint checking account with my wife so I know it's a shady call because I don't write checks, and I haven't for a very long time.... So anyway I too have had problems for a while now with this guy calling all the time but I always let his calls go straight to voicemail and then delete them..... Oh and he does switch numbers occasionally to try and throw you off..... This company sounds very shady

I have been in the industry for 14 years and I can tell you from both professional and personal experience that it is ALWAYS better to maintain an open line of communication with ANY DEBT COLLECTOR, regardless of who they are. Than it is to avoid them, and get into an argument with them. The trick is to be as knowledgeable as possible. Be HONEST and for Pete Sake don't avoid it.
#1. If you are going to include this in a bankruptcy, Be proactive! Call THEM back, Tell them you know you Owe it but that you have filed bankruptcy. DO NOT just call them and tell them you are going to, and hope for the best. File it and have the info listed below, The more you can give them the sooner you will be left alone. (THIS GOES FOR ALL CREDITORS)
#2. Have the following Minimum Basic Information in front of you.
Attorney's Firm Name, His/Her Personal Name, The Address, Phone Number, The Case type (typically Chapter 7 or 13,).
#3. Offer to call THEM BACK with the rest of the information. within 30 days. This is what you need to give them on YOUR CALL BACK. Case Number, Filing Date, Creditor Meeting Date, Time Location, Trustee Name, Address. MOD NOTE: There is no need for this step...that is the attorneys job
#4. Under FDCPA Law They have to record this info and mark the account Bankruptcy/Contact Not allowed.
If you remember I said Be Honest and to not just SAY you are doing this? You might ask Why. Because all debt collectors have infinite resources to research, so if for example you say I???m filing Bankruptcy, It is a Chapter 7, Case # as 123456-78-2012, My attorney is Joe Black and Associates, he is handling it personally, his address is 123 Main Street and his phone is 111-222-3333. Please know that they can and will verify every piece of info that you give them, because it is all public record once it is filed.

Caller speaks too quickly to understand msg. He says I must call him about something filed in some county that might involve me, but he doesn't state what it is about. Caller ID # is for Frontier Financial, but I'm concerned that if I call #, company may think I'm acknowledging debt that I don't know anything about. I think I've paid all my bills and don't want to be sued for something I don't know if I owe.

FFG (as well as other debt collectors of these sorts) needs to also be aware of one certain law (which I am sure they are not aware of seeing that they are reps trying to collect a good commission check), there is a certain thing called Statue of Limitations. For all of you who has been contacted by FFG (Frontier Financial Group) for an old debt check with your States Statue of Limitations, it ranges from State to State and varies from 3 to 6 years. If FFG tries to contact you regarding a really old debt make sure its beyond the Statue of Limitations, if it is then they can not collect on any debt.
Also if you do get a Dunning Letter from FFG (or any debt collector) make sure the original debtor is on the letter, sometimes it will state that the debt was bought from some company, it should be the original debtor not some other company, and if it was bought all they are trying to do is make their money back and won't go to the original debtor, ergo this means FFG is now the debtor and not the orginial company that you dealt with. These bottom feeders get paid a set salary with instructions to collect by any means possible, if they can collect on the orginial amount plus interest (or whatever extra they charge) then they get a good size commission check, that is why they offer to discount on the old debt, the less money they collect, the less commission they can collect, so they threaten, harass, intimidate you or what ever is needed to collect. If it is an old debt and they won't leave you alone contact an Attorney that specializes in these types of cases, you may be entitled to getting up to $1,000.00 for damages (and there don't have to be damages in order to get this), but they have to be in violation of the FTC Laws governing their actions. In addition contact the BBB as well as your State Attorney's Office as well as NV State Attorney's Office and file a complaint. Its time to stop the harassments, the threats and the fear that they may have you arrested or something (they can not arrest you). Thank you for letting me post this. :D

These clowns called me today. Once i told them i was using a debt management company, he tried being judgemental towards me saying that I was the one who put myself into this debt. Technically, Yes, i honestly did, but at the same time, i am just starting out on my own with a wife and a child and like Murphys Law that my dad was telling me about it did hit. We had multiple things go on with our house that needed to be fixed from a busted waterline to the AC/heat unit going bad all within a few months period of time. I didnt have the cash on hand so I had to do a cash advance on a few credit cards. Also, my wife was getting full time pay, and I was working two jobs. About a year ago things went south with my wifes job and she took a cut on her hours. Then i ended up leaving my second job for undisclosed purposes. Anyways, these jackasses called today my parents house, inlaws house, sisters house, made threatening remarks about garnishing wages from my pay. This is how stupid they are, YOU CANNOT GARNISH WAGES FROM A STATE YOU ARE NOT LOCATED IN!!! Also, i found this out on BBB website, they are a C-, plus had over 139 complaints from not only creditors, but also consumers. And towards the bottom it tells you YOUR RIGHTS, and they legally CANNOT threaten to garnish your wages unless intended to do so. If they was a little more friendly, and possibly just willing to ask what is going on, why have you not made payments and then just tried to resolve the problem or explain to you that they didnt take a debt management company, they prolly wouldnt be that bad of a group. I believe the collection agency i dealt with was the one that Discover used, they was friendly and the person was friendly. Towards the end of the conversation, it ended up very very very heated with alot of yelling, and him being called a jackass. Oh well, I guess they will get their money when they decide to go along with the debt management company.
