It is me again...i joined this site thinking that i can help. I am a collector. A compassionate one. I call collection agencies on behalf of friends and family, negotiate settlments and payment arrangments.... I fight for settlments on my job, and this lawyer here in the forum, makes an obsene comment.............that i felt was directed to me//he said something slick about being a saint and working for the devil.....that hurt because god's people are everywhere, in jails, prisons, even collection agency's, so i have decided to leave the forum///no need to be here when you all have a big shot lawyer who hates collectors........farewell

I had an interesting experience today that is highly relevant to this thread, so I thought I would pass it along.

I sued out a fdcpa case about two weeks ago. Then, a few days ago, I settled it with the president of the collection agency.

But then today, I was climbing at the outdoor store where I used to work, and found out that one of the debt collectors I sued was actually a former coworker of mine. The name was just plain enough that I didn't recognize it when I sued out the case.

At first I felt terrible for suing someone who I knew fairly well--as well as you can know a co-worker, that is. She is a "cool" person who I liked working with, liked hanging out with after work, etc.

On further reflection, I realized that while it was an unfortunate situation, I didn't feel badly about suing her. She broke the law, and in doing so caused my client a lot of stress and anguish.

I still like this woman, but I think less of her knowing she would stoop to harassing a debtor. I'm sure she needs the money, too, but that is no excuse for behaving the way she did.

If I had recognized her, I would have referred the case to another attorney in my office. She doesn't deserve a free pass just because I know and like her, but if I can avoid suing people I like, I will.

Perhaps there are good debt collectors. I never hear about them, but maybe it is possible to be a debt collector and still be helpful. I have my doubts, but anything is possible.

Anyway, just thought I would share that with all of you.

Fins is right, one scenerio would be if you committed a felony and were found not guilty by reason of insanity, you wouldn't have to put it. And some jobs only go back so many years for the convicted felon. For example, I know of one company (I won't say names) asks if you have been convicted of a felony within the past 7 years.

My company simply won't hire you if you are a convicted felon, no matter how great your credentials are. My husband's company has the same policy. Even applying at a place like Wal-Mart or Meijer you may have trouble getting a job if your ap says you're a convicted felon. You can't really lie about it, either, because so many places do random background checks now.

I have been in the back of WalMart paying on layaways in the past and I've read their big sign about applying for a job with them. They have it on there also that if you do drugs don't bother applying for a job. My place of employment won't hire any convicted felons either, and you could not lie on the application about it because they run so many finger print checks with all of the different law enforcement agencies you are guaranteed to be busted.

so i guess none of you are felons...hmmm lets us look at the facts most likely many of you have had credit cards at one point or another where you charged things on them..hmm running up a bill, some of you defaulted on these cards, had them forgiven or written off maybe even bankruptcy. Now of course in most states if its under %500 then all you are guilty of is a misdemeanor but if it's over %500 then hmmm lets see thats a felony...now did you not or did you agree to when you signed that credit card apllication to pay the creditor, is your word no good or your signature...just think about that but oh yeah we live in America where debt is a forgivable action... in my eyes any of you who have comitted these crimes are felons you just hide behind acceptance

Fins, sounds like guest is a disgruntled convicted felon to me trying to transfer their anger for their stupidity on others. No sympathy here for the convicted felon. Besides, this is a forum on debt not a safe haven for criminals to come and get sympathy. And that is my opinion, really do not care what guest thinks of it.

I have thought the same thing recently. Seems there are an awful lost of pdl people coming on here and posting nonsense, and you are right, they must need something to occupy their time at work since consumers are wising up to their business practices. And for all the convicted felons and criminals out their that want to seek sympathy or post nonsense posts, please try googling "gellin felon" and see if there is a forum out there for you. Should be one, it seems there is one for just about anything.

You know, a few months ago I said that I would no longer respond to obnoxious guests. I guess I've given up that ghost, this/these particular guest/guests have really brought out the moxie in me. I think it's all the aggression I have because of the packed stores right now..Meijer was a circus today!! So I guess I should thank guest(s), for the outlet to vent my frustrations.

Thank you guest, see? You too can help someone on this board.

I had to giggle a bit at the guest's analogy of credit card users being felons....where do these people come from? Amazing how one's mind can twist things when you're trying to validate your own sins.

No one is perfect. Everyone has done something wrong at some point in their life. The difference between being a debtor who "hides behind acceptance" (in our guest's immortal words) and a convicted felon is the the debtor is being pursued by creditors who simply want their money. The felon is pursued by the law, who intends to obtain justice. I don't think it's hard to see that the debtor is definitely on the better end of things.

Karen, My problem is sometimes I think I would be better off. Instead of being so naive. I am probably one of the dumbest chicks you would ever meet. KYSIDE38

I work with felons also Bossy, that is probably why felons who come here will NOT receive any sympathy from me. And there is a reason why felons can not get a good job, they can't be trusted and they have to earn that trust back, not try to earn sympathy. Sounds cold, but that is my opinion.

Ladies, I was at Target last weekend and got soooo ticked off. Some moron decided that it was a good idea to STOP in the middle of the lane and block traffic so he could load stuff into another vehicle. They could have driven to the back of the lot to do that, instead I was stuck for 15 mins. I was NOT happy. I was yelling obscenities out the window the whole time. Jerk.

I'm always in the mood to Christmas shop, till I get in the stores, then I'm psycho lady. Christmas shopping brings the MORON out in so many people I can't stand it...lol

The waitress was rude and we had to ask her 3 times for refills. She was terrible. I said (rather loudly, because I wanted her to hear me) "It's been a looooong time since I've had service this bad!" Well...she didn't hear, but the manager did. I felt horrible, but hey...Red Robin is kinda pricey..I should try this more often! That would be stealing, though.

Tells you that her business must be bad and not so on the up and up. What reputable loan company advertises like this and the only contact is through their yahoo address? Surely people won't e-mail her, I was able to delete her e-mail in one thread. People need to be careful, this is how identity theft happens. No reputable loan company would advertise in this manner.
