Well, once the collection agency gets a judgment against you it can add interest to it too. You may check the following site for your state's SOl for a judgment.

Judgement or no, you have a right to know how they got that figure. In your position, I'd likely call them. Record the call for your own protection (check here for your state laws on telephone recording.) Just ask them how they got that number, since you've been paying along under an existing agreement. If you find yourself getting upset, politely end the call, and hang up. Same applies if they get abusive.

Are they allowed to charge intrest BEFORE they get a judgement on an account that was charged off and they purchased? I'm in Ohio
