The female caller (with an obvious Memphis accent) called and said she was calling from Memphis Tennesse and was looking for an "associate" of mine. (My sister's ex-husband was the "associate.") Since he is not my "associate" I just said I do not have an "associate" named ......
She politily thanked me and hung up. This was the second call of the night. The first call went unanswered. The second call was at 8:45 p.m.
Business Manager
I normally will grab calls when my co-worker is busy with a client. He is a close friend and he gets a dozen calls a day from other dealers looking to trade units. Yesterday I recieved a call from Regional Adjustment Bureau when I picked up his call for him. The person started telling me all sorts of information about my co-worker including debt amounts and account numbers. My co-worked is totally pissed about this guy from RAB not verifing who he was speaking to. Anyone know what legal remedies that he might have for giving this information out to someone else other than himself?

What you are describing is a clear violation of the FDCPA. The FDCPA clearly states the collector must identify and verify who they are speaking with before disclosing any information pertaining to a debt. A failure to do so is a violation that can result in a law suit being filed against the collector, the agency and the client they are working on behalf of. t reference FDCPA- Article 805.
Don't give your information
I received a call about 8:30 p.m. I asked them whom they would like to speak too. The person stated a name, I knew it was a scan so I hunged up the telephone. Before you give any information to anyone ask yourself this question, What business office will disturb clients at 8:30 p.m.?

I have been getting calls from Regional Adjustment Bureau on my cell and work phone. They have been told me me and my BOSS not to call my office but they are welcome to call my cell yet they continue to call my office. Isn't it illegal for them to call your work if they are asked not to? It's not like I am avoiding them - I answer on my cell every time they call or call them back when I miss the call.
They keep saying the SAME THING over and over. They tell me I owe money and I say OK I will have the money to pay you back in May but I don't have it to pay you back until I get my back pay from when I was laid off. All they say is "I'm marking this down as a refusal to pay" and they hang up. I'm kind of confused because I didn't refuse to pay - I just can't pay right at this moment. I am taking care of my debt from smallest to largest as I was told you are supposed to do. I have 1 card completley paid off and I am working on the second - this one happens to be the largest.
What should I do?

Jessica123 - Go to the FTC - study The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - consider whom you give information to, and the type of information. Find out who RAB is working for, THEY should verify SSN with you, if anything, and follow previous statements for mitigation. Google FTC, which is FTC DOT GOV.

Hi Jessica123 - I'm going through the same thing with them right now.
I've written them letters that ask to communicate only with me through the mail. I've asked them numerous times to cease calling and to use the mail for correspondence, but no luck. They call several times a day - it's harassment.
I've offered on numerous occaisons to PAY THE DEBT via settlement or monthly payments, yet they always tell me they are marking me down as refusing to pay. This is atrocious.
I cannot believe how rude and demanding they are. Truly - it's terrible. They are agressive and offensive.
I've filed complaints with the BBB and the FTC, and I recommend you do the same.

Ms. Thomas from Regional (Debt Collections Agency) calls at least once a month trying to reach a former employee. I have told her several times that the employee has not worked at the company is several years. Today she threatened to file a complaint for not forwarding the call. She is extremely rude. She will not transfer to a manager. When I called back and asked for a manager the lady who answered the phone hung up on me.
