Sent debt validation today. Do I need to talk to them before they get validation letter? They have called several times.

You dont have to but it might be a good idea. Collection agencies see this a stall tactic and may recommend that your account be escalated for further action and not even bother taking the time to do the DV. Time is money to them.

I will send today. Are they not required to dv since only assigned to them? Again, I am assuming they were assigned not sold.
they are only required to answer if they wish to collect on it.
they are only required to answer if they wish to collect on it. With a lot of agencies, it is too much of a hassle so they close and return it or make requests to escalate the account. the agency I worked for would never hang onto a citibank dv request...it clogged up their inventory and messed with their numbers...so they would usually request that citi refer it to a law office.
