United Recovery Service is attempting to collect a debt on a on a voluntarily terminated car lease with US Bank. I sent USR a letter to validate the debt, asking for the standard items, I got back a copy of the lease, a copy of the past due amounts, who sold the vehicle at auction, how much it sold for, what I owed after the sale, and a history of payments from US Bank. In the payment history from US Bank, the balance shows $10962.82 while the amount trying to be collected from URS is $11030.62. I did not get anything actually validating the amount from USR. I had been making payments of $175 to US Bank for several months, but stopped and that is why it went to collections. Also it looks like US Bank was posting $161.44 toward what I owe and $13.56 to sales tax which is odd. I understand sales tax on an active lease, but on terminated lease? USR did try to settle quickly with an offer of $3600 and the give us your checking info over the phone and have the money by this date, but I declined.
Any thoughts on next steps would be appreciated.

Was it a signed lease by you that they sent?
If so then it would be best to settle with them for whatever you can. If they take you to court and they have proof with a signed contract then you will end up paying more in the long run.
