hello community:) it is great to find you and I hope someone will have a few moments to give me an advice.
I recently checked my credit history for the first time and this is what I found:
my credit score is 583 - poor
and there is only two things on my credit
one debt of 143$ dated 2000
one debt of 138$ dated 2008

I am not sure where these came from and I need and advice and info on what to do. I can repay these immediately but would like to know how long it will take to change the credit score if I just repay these two.
I don't have any credit cars or loans.

Hi...Welcome to the forum. Thsi is a great forum....alot of good people with great advice. First things first:can you tell me what state you're living in? I'm asking because the SOL ( Statue of Limitations) is different in every state. You have a debt that is on there from 2000. Now........what you can do is look at the 'fall-off' date of these debts. This info will be on the right side of the debt or right underneath it. Whatever the 'fall-off' date is, THAT is the date that the debt should have come off your Credit Report. If it's STILL on there, you can 'dispute' this with the CBA's and ask them to remove it. Second: If the 'fall-off' date is going to be soon, than DO NOT try to make payment arrangements, or anything like that, on it. This will 're-start' the debt and the 'fall-off' date will change. For example..usually a debt can stay on your CR for up to 7 years ( depending on what it is). If you 'restart' a debt, it can stay on you CR for ANOTHER 7 years. Does that make sense to you? Hope this information helped a bit. Let me know an update, please. Thanks.

First off, are you familair with both of these debts? ARE YOU CERTAIN that you are responsible for them? Check with the companies that are listing these debts to make sure you are the correct debtor. Make sure this not a mistake.

If you are the correct debtor, the debt from 2000 is no longer allowed to be listed on your credit reports. The statute of limitations for listing a trade line on your credit report(s) is seven years. You can send a letter to each credit reporting bureau (Experian, Trans Union and Equifax) and inform them that the SOL has expired and that they should remove the listing immediately. That listing is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (fdcpa) and could result in a settlement in court, if you were so inclined.

As for the second debt- if you are responsible, I suggest contacting the original creditor or collection agency that is seeking the settlement. See if you can make full payment immediately. Request that upon receipt of payment in full, they remove the listing on your credit reports. Remember to always communicate with CAs in writting only, always send payment via money order and never supply them with more than your full name and address, in regards to personal information. Personal information has been known to be used incorrectly by CAs, and sometimes illegally to recover monies owed.

Good luck!

OMG!! I DID forget to ask if the debts were 'validated'. That's a GOOD point. ..if you know for a fact they are yours.

here the date is 2000.I do have an account with this bank now, though it's not very active...
These debts were made while I lived in MA, I am in HI now.
What should I do now? My credit report shows only these 2 debts and one account info and the 593 credit score. I need these resolved and score raised asap bc I will be applying for graduate school loans.
If one of you can outline for me the best steps that woudl be great. how can I make sure that these two are removed form my report if i pay them off totally or make monthly payments? how soon can I expect the score ro go up and ti which number? which score number is consider acceptable by lenders?
Thank you all so much. I cant express enough how great it is to find this community and to get some help. Thank you!
