I got a letter in the mail from one of the collection agencies on my credit report on 8/7/2010 saying they have instructed the three credit bureaus to delete their entries from my credit report. I checked my report today and still see it on there. How long does it typically take once they notify the credit reporting agencies? Do I need to send anything in to them? Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

You can make a written request to that CA to remove the negative listings from your credit report out of goodwill via certified mail with a return receipt request. The following link may help you in this regard:

The credit bureaus are required to give you a reply within 30-45 days of receiving the letter to remove the negative listing from your credit report.

Their agreement to delete the reported information does not carry with it any statutory time period. The only statutory period results after they have provided notice in response to a formal dispute of the information, stating that the information is either inaccurate or cannot be verified, and even then, the statute only states that correction/deletion be "promptly" reported. FCRA 623(b)(E).

Sending the creditor or debt collector a good-will request for deletion does not involve the CRA in any manner. The 30-day CRA period only relates to formal disputes filed with them, and not letters sent to the furnisher of the information.
