i am trying to raise my credit score.there is a bad bad mark on my credit report.chase(credit card) the limit was 300 dollars i went over that limit when my baby kitty was sick and charged a 400 dollar vet bill on the chase card.i was making payments but every time i sent a payment they added extra fees for being late.i am sure the payments were not late any way i stooped paying and now its a charge off now they are saying i owe 2,500 dollars i just used 400 of there dollars.how do i deal with that and that should be against the law to charge that much.i want to see if i pay can they remove the charge off, but i will not give those crooks 2,500 it was 400 hundred dollars whats wrong with them fools.........

What has happened is that when you defaulted on your payments your interest rate that you were paying went up (probably WAY up) then they will add on late fees, over the limit fees. Now with that being said, this amount will keep going up as long as you don't pay it. They can add on interest for like forever. So as long as you still owe this they will keep adding on interest (per your original credit card contract) they may stop the other fees but the interest won't stop.

Now sometimes you can try and settle with them and ask for a pay for delete, but that is often rare that they will accept that offer, but you will have to pay them in one lump sum.

Do you know if this is an actual charge off, and is assigned to a JDB, or is this still with the OC. Although it will show as a paid charge off, or settled for less than the full amount, you may be able to settle for less than you owe with the OC, and if your lucky get a payment plan.

Chase is a stickler though - so it may be really tough to get them to cooperate.

Good luck OP!

Chase is a really tricky. They do not sent to a Collection Agency because they use in house lawyers. What I would do is try to contact them by sending a settlement letter which you can find samples of here on this site. I would try to settle for less than 50% but I know that when I tried to settle with them, they would not take anything less than 50% but I was in the process of being sued by them. Give settlement a try, the worse they can say is no!!!! You do need to know though that they will want it in one lump sum or payments over no more than 4 months. Believe me I tried everything and they would not let me pay a settlement more than 4 months.

Good luck.
