Debt returns to CRA report

What is the best way to attack a returned item on a credit report?
Had two items on the experian report
one CA that I have sent debt validation letters to with no response
and a Gas company item that is from 2004 that was put on report Oct/10
Sent dispute for both item 1/21/11
items deleted 2/21/11
2/24/11 Disputed gas item returns
What is the next plan of attack do I
ask for a debt validation from the gas company
do I ask how they verified this item at the credit reporting agency?
Do I do both?
If so does anyone have any good example letters?
I'm chugging along here so far so good

However, let me ask you, have to paid off the Gas company? If yes, then you can send them a goodwill letter and ask them to remove the negative item from your credit report.
