It is quite possible that it wasn't a live person that called you, but a computer. When it got a live person (you) instead of disco'ing the call or leaving a message, you were transferred to a queue. You then got the next available collector. I advise sending them a letter stating you will only communicate via mail (utilize return receipt). While you are at it, send another letter demanding a validation of the debt. You need to send it to them in writing; telling any given collector these things carries no real weight.
