I currently have 7 payday loans that originated in Tennessee. I currently reside in Georgia, where payday loans are illegal. What can I do to resolve my debts and end begin the process of getting out of the payday loan cycle?

Uncle Warbucks -1300 - Paid (1275) - Balance (1430)
Speedy Cash -1100
Cash Net USA - 1500
Great Plains - 3000 - Paid (1592.14) - Balance (2815.13)
Advance America - 460
Zoca Loans - 1000 - Paid (253.39) -Balance (879.90)
Lend Up- 347

I am currently paying around $1500 in fees biweekly. It is getting impossible to pay my necessary bills. I have considered working with a credit counseling program. I am nervous to close my bank account, but I really need to settle my debts. I appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Whitney

Don't close bank account all of a sudden. See, you have to pay the principal amount along with the interest rate to the legal lenders. Just pay the principal amount to the illegal lenders. You said you had considered credit counseling session, but didn't mention the suggestion you got from the session.

However, you can talk to the lenders who are legal for an extended time. Or, you can request for a reduced amount mentioning your financial hardship.

Whitney- Great Plains is a tribal lender. Search this forum for letter and evoke eft from them and if you've paid your principal tell them you want a paid in full letter. If it's not paid tell them you'll finish paying principal only in money orders. I just finished up with them and just received my paid in full letter from them.

Thanks everyone!
I spoke to a credit counselor from a company called Debt Management Credit Counseling Corp, and he suggested that I close my account. They offer to work with the lenders and sum up your total balances of all your loans and divide it into 12 monthly payments at 0% APR. It sounds too good to be true in my opinion. I currently have paid Great Plains $1592.14 of a $3000 loan, and my account says my balance is $2815.13. I have paid Uncle Warbucks $1275 of a $1300 loan, and my balance is still $1430.

Also you advise not to close my bank account. Can I trust that the illegal lenders will not debit my account even if i revoke authorization from them?

I'm also debating this. I spoke with a settlement company yesterday and they said I should close account. I'm scared that will make the payday loan companies angrier.
