You should contact the Virginia Bureau of Financial Institutions in order to find out whether or not your payday lender is licensed to operate in your state. If you find that they are not licensed to operate in your state, you should pay them only the principal amount in order to get rid of the debts.

TO the poster...do not pay them a dime more and demand a refund. You probably wont get it but at least try.

Thanks! I have a few more illegal loans that I've already sent letters to but I just wasn't sure about this one since it was over my state's limit. If they don't give me a refund, at the very least I can consider them paid off and they won't get any more money out of me.

I agree with what the previous posters have said. As they are not licensed to operate in your state, so you are required to pay only the principal amount.
