have gotten into a payday loan mess. I have 9 payday loans. I am very thankful that I found this site. I have contacted the Department of regulations for the state of MD and they have been a great help. However, I do need more information on Zip19. They sent me a letter after I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau that they are legal in Canada and have nothing to do with the MD state laws. I spoke with the Attorney Generals office about this and they stated that they (PDLs) always say that. I do have a cease and desist letter from the Attorney General which I plan on sending to them. My concern is them contacting my referrals. I have already spoken with the payroll department and they are under strict orders to contact Suzanne Elbon or myself if they attempt to garnish my wages. Has anyone here had experience with them contacting referrals and employers after a C&D letter was sent.

Welcome! Well, my experience was that even though I had sent my C and D letter, one PDL contacted one of my references, one time, and one time only. You have spoken with your payroll department and that is a good thing. The others never tried to contact anyone so that should be enouraging to you. As far as their being in Canada, if that is really where they are, it has nothing to do with Maryland. If you are speaking of zip19.com, try sending your C and D letter to this address. . . js@blizzardi.com. Keep us posted.

I sent the first letter to Malta Financial services. I am not sure if they will help but this is what I wrote. The 2nd letter was sent to Northway Financial ZIP19 and Malta Financial Service complaint dept. Just give you some background on this loan. I filed a complaint with the bbb.org regarding this loan and their response was that they did not have to abide by the laws of Maryland and that they operated under the laws in Canada.

Are you aware that you are dealing with a payday loan company called Zip19 who are processing loans illegally in the United States. They are not licensed to do business here. They have stated that they are not obligated to follow the laws in the state of Maryland. Why is this? I have contacted the BBB.org and my Attorney General Office regarding this matter. They have received a cease & desist letter from the Attorney Generals office here and they keep changing their name so that they can keep doing illegal business here. I have contacted the Federal Trade Commission regarding this as well. Your organization needs to do something about this illegal activity. I am sure that you are aware that ZIP19 is working with Northway Financial.

Attention Zip19, Cash transfers, Northway Financial

Thank you for responding to the Better Business Bureau complaint that I sent regarding account# -------. I have forwarded this information to the Attorneys General Office. They have advised me again that this loan is considered void due to the fact you are not licensed here in Maryland and you are operating here illegally. Please visit The Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation website for the Cease and Desist letter that they sent to you http://www.dllr.state.md.us/da/default.aspx?OrderID=17 in April 2007. I have supplied you with the link.

The only person you will be contacting from now on regarding this loan is Suzanne Elbon at (410) 230-6073 from The Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation she has no problem with speaking with you regarding this account. Also, please note that I am informing you once again that I am revoking the wage assignment letter. I have advised the payroll department regarding this matter and they are under strict orders to contact me and Suzanne Elbon.

Thank you for your cooperation,

So, I have had 3 loans with Zip 19. They take it out of my bank and then I re-loan as needed. Hopefully less each time until I can afford NOT to loan. In the event I cannot Pay are you saying, to close my bank acct and send a C&D letter to Zip? These loan companies are so hard to pay back when you have limited income

I live in california, usa. i have used zip 19 a lot. i get my money fast, and they take it when its due. i haven't had any problems with them, customer support is good i think. just for reference, not sure of your state laws, but in california, the only people who can garnish your wages is the IRS. No other company, can Garnish your wages regardless of amount owed, or debt. But like i said, if you owe the irs, then then have the legal power, and right to garnish and feed on your money!!! goodluck!!

I live in ca and I have an outstanding loan amount of $1300. I couldn't pay everything off all at once and they are threatening to call my employer. What can I do to prevent that from happening? If I talk to payroll, what should I explain to them?

Well, there's good news and better news. The Good news is, in order to loan money out as an (online payday loan) company, you have to have what's called a DFI number. This number is state by state regulated, but gives a company legal right to provide online Payday loan services. I went through the exact hell, that the rest of you went through, but decided to do a list of homework about this company after no positive results, etc, etc.

I live here in Washington State. I had checked with the BBB, Attorney General, the RCW, as well as the complete State legal listings. Come to find out, ZiP-19 does not have a DFI license to operate within the State of Washington. Here is the actual cut & pasted bullet from the RCW;

??? Any payday loan obtained from a lender not licensed with the DFI, and not repaid to the lender may not be collected by lender and the lender may not pursue action in Washington State to collect the debt. See RCW 31.45.105.

So..... after I had sent a responding email with the current info, etc, etc. Both Zip-19 / Northway Corp. emailed me two PDF's. One stating their Malta & European laws. They actually stated, that they are not bound by the laws of Washington State..... idiots!!

Anyway, The better news is....... You DO NOT, repeat.... DO NOT!!!! have to repay Zip-19 aka: Northway Corp. Unless by some far off fat chance, that your state's law says otherwise.

I have a complete detailed email document that I made in order to settle this business. If you would like a copy, please email me with the following subject, so that I don't think it's spam. ;-)

PS: Any recent site I come across with Zip-19 or Northway Corp. Complaints, I will try to post this reply. We need freedom from our own mistakes sometimes.
