I am driving to work and I have this song in my head and I can't get rid of it. I do not know how it got there. Has that ever happened to you? The worst part is it is not a song that I really like and I don't know the words so I find myself making them up. This particular time the song is "True" by Spandau Ballet. It came out in the 80s I think. I am singing to myself "I bought a chicken from a girl" when I look it up on Google it is "I bought a ticket for the world."
How many people thought that the words in Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann were "wrapped up like a douc_e" when it really was "revved up like a deuce?" So what song lyrics have you been messing up all your life on purpose or without realizing it.

Actually Blinded by the Light was written by Bruce Springsteen, and Manfred Mann was doing a cover version. "I bought a ticket for the world" I believe is from that song by Spandau Ballet (their only hit).

For me, "Saturday Afternoon" by Keith West -- I doubt if anyone here has heard of him or the group Tomorrow that he was in.

I don't like Spandau Ballet either. I was living in the U.K. at the time of this "hit". I was watching TV with a friend when they interviewed the singer. He went on about how everyone was now into clothes and the "image" LOL. I remember my friend saying, "yeah, well look at that get-up he's wearing".

I like Huey Lewis too. Another song which haunts me every now and then is Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar" (originally a traditional Irish song) by the original group of Phil Lynott on Bass/vocals, Eric Bell guitar, and Brian Downey drums. This dates from about 1973 I think.

Ok on a totally different note...When my son is trying to get to me he sings the lime in the coke u nut commercial...and then I can't get the jingle out of my head and wil sit there four hours with it playing in my head....Usually, whatever song is playing on the radio when my alarm goes off in the morning is what plays in my head all day.

Roxy, that "lime in the coconut" was actually a hit by Harry Neilson in the early 70s, (a notorious drinker) and friend of John Lennon. He had quite a number of hits, including the theme tune of "The Midnight Cowboy" (Gentle on My Mind ?)

I don't know about Spandau, that was the -only- song I ever heard of theirs.

LOL I know what you mean, it might be one of the world's most annoying songs.

I was wrong, The Midnight Cowboy theme song wasn't Gentle on My Mind. It was the one which starts, "everyone is talking at me, I don't hear a word they're saying...". Can't remember the title. It was written and sung by Neilson, and quite another big hit for him. I think this was 1969.

One bit of movie trivia about The Midnight Cowboy (starring Dustin Hoffmann and Jon Voight): The producers wanted to use Bob Dylan and his song "Lay Lady Lay" as the theme tune, but he exercised his mechanical rights to the song and wouldn't let them.

finsfan, yes, and something about "echos in my mind". I haven't heard the Buffet version. You guys must be Parrot Heads. The "whoa whoa whoa whoa", might be from a different Harry Nielson song. A rather "heavy" tune from the late 60s or early 70s. I don't recall the title to that either, but hear it on oldies stations every now and then.

Parrotheads! Woo hoo! I can remember singing the volcano song in elementary school. Pretty fitting since all that Iran stuff was happening at the time and we sang the line in the song "Don't want to land on no ayatolla..." And "don't want to land on no 3 mile island. Don't want to see my skin aglow." I remember when that 3-mile island thing happened. I know...I'm old. I graduated high school in 1990, so do the math. But, about messing up song lyrics, I used to mess up Journey. That line that goes "You make me weak. I want to die." I used to think he was saying "You make me eat. I'm on a diet." LOL!

Oh, thank God! I was reading this and everyone is calling themselves "old" and graduating in 1990 and 1991. I was like "Ummm......" Hell, I'm not saying when I graduated either! LOL! Now I feel REALLY old! So, thank you, roxy! And, I was a major Parrot Head at one time (now I have nightmares). Saw old Jimmy at a lake concert in Kentucky. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Okay, almost as good as when I saw Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica (God, I can't even spell it anymore!) in concert together in high school. Okay, now do you know I'm old? LOL!

Polka? Oh Lordy! Now, I like a lot. Almost everything. Depends on my mood. And I can two-step like you wouldn't believe (nightmares again!). Yet I can bang my head with the best of them!

Now that's old but I love music especially groups like Fleetwood Mac...and songs such as "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow!" Now that'll take you back!

Isn't that the song by the group America? It has been too long since I've heard it. I did hear their "Ventura Highway" on the radio the other day though. Just to the opposite of this thread there are a few song which fall into that catagory "don't care if I ever hear again" because of constant play since their release. For me it is Freebird, Stairway to Heaven, most of the Rolling Stones early songs, most songs by Boston, etc.

Current song stuck in my head, "I Want to be Sedated" by the Ramones. (I didn't know that they'd covered "What a Wonderful World", the old Louis Armstrong number, until I heard in in a TV ad recently).

I really love the Ramones! I am only 33, a little young, but I have a brother who is ten years older that taught me the joy of The Ramones and Zappa.

The songs I never want to hear again..I agree 100% with Freebird. I also detest all Aerosmith. And...I'm probably going to get nailed to the wall for this one...I HATE Jimmy Hendrix.

When I got married ten years ago, we picked an oldie from the 70's for our first dance, it's our song.. Remember "babe" by the Climax Blues Bland.."as my head was spinning 'round..I gazed into your eyes..And thought ooooooh, I got you!"

I liked Aerosmith, until they discovered ballads. They went from rock and roll to being a lounge act. There was an excellent documentary on PBS about the Ramones a year or two back. But, all the original members are dead now, except the dummer. The singer and guitar player to cancer, and the bass player to an overdose.

I was lucky enough to go to a Zappa concert once. Really, about 90% of what he did was jazz.

Oh, how romantic! Unchained Melody as your first dance. Oh..... That is wonderful. Honestly, I blocked out my wedding dance. LOL! Couldn't even tell you the song we danced to! How sad is that?

Another running through my head lately is the album by Spirit, "The Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus". I don't have the CD, but the LP has a CD quality production, even though this was in the late 60s.

Another of the tunes I don't care to ever hear again, --anything from the Frampton Comes Alive album, especially "Do You Feel Like We Do". Actually I like his recent works better, and they haven't been driven into the ground.

Songs I never tire of, any Beatles, early Robin Trower, the Ramones, original Yes, and original Genesis (with Peter Gabriel on vocals).
