Hello,

I recently received a call everyday from a company called RAB (aka Regional Adjustment Bureau) and I get this automated message stating that it's a very important call. Has anyone heard of this? or recognize the phone number (800 829 7750) or anything? I'm really confused what they want from me because I have no idea what kind of debt they are talking about. They don't mention anything in the message except for the phone # and that it's a very important matter. I guess I'm never really available to pick up because I'm working at my job most of the time (they call in the morning-afternoon) and so I'm just trying to find out who these guys are before I talk to them.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi quesik

RAB is a collection agency. I guess you should pick up the phone and know the reason of their call. If they have a legitimate reason, you can talk to them further. Here is their address information:

Regional Adjustment Bureau Incorporated
7000 Goodlett Farms Pkwy
Cordova, TN 38016-4916
(901) 382-0250
Phone - 800 829 7750

Are they allowed to do this? I know they have called at least one other neighbor, trying to get us to give messages to this particular neighbor. I hope they call again now that I know what their business is!

collection agencies can contact third parties if they are unable to reach the particular person. If you inform them about not making calls to you, they must follow it. Give it a legal effect to it by sending a cease and desist letter. Here is a template you can use.

http://forums.debtcc.com/template-cdletter.html

The cease and desist letter has a legal impact as per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

They called me yesterday to contact my neighbor about a personal matter. I am on the National Do Not Call List. I have filed a complaint with the DNC center. I have also tried to contact these idiots and express to them to not call me, yet I get nowhere.

"Do not call" does not work on a collection agency. It works specifically on telemarketing calls. You need to send a cease and desist communication through certified mail with return receipt requested. Use this template and save a copy in your folder along with the green copy.

I am going to contact our local phone company. I will give them the phone number (800 829 7750) but not the fact that I know who they are. They never say who they are. So why should I? Hopefully I can get the phone company to block it without extra costs on my monthly bill. If I can't, I will call from a pay phone and leave them a nasty message. I will simply say WHY I am calling them. But I will use the same system that they do. I won't tell them who I am. But I will tell them, on behalf of everyone, that if they don't stop calling me. I WILL call the phone Co., the FCC, and anyone else that I can think of.

They called my house tonight and asked if so and so was my neighbor that they had tried getting in touch with him, but his number was disconnected. They left the 800 number that was mentioned earlier in the post. Before the last call, it was a computer calling and caller ID would just say "Out Of Area" call and no one would be on the other line. That number has called here at least 20 times in the past few days. Why would they call me to relay a message to my neighbor? If they can get my number, why couldn't they find my neighbor's number. Too strange and gives me the creeps.

Yes, these folks tried to get me to serve as their collection agent and harrass next door neighbors by leaving messsages on their door stop.

The folks in that house were renters and have long since left.

Serving legal notices is risky buisness. They will be lucky if this tatic doesn't catch up to them someday. I'm not getting paid to work for them, so I think they can politely stick it where then sun doesn't shine.

These collection agencies are out of control. I had to pay for changing my last phone number because another company kept calling and asking for someone I've never even heard of.

Frankly, I can't get any peace from these people and I have perfect credit!

So when they call and you want to find out who is calling you before giving any information- what do you say?

Well, for starters, you can ask "who's calling?"

They can give their name, and the company's name. They are not supposed to give out any account info until they identify the person on the phone as the account holder or spouse. 3rd party disclosure is not permitted--they cannot give out account info to just anyone; only the debtor, spouse, attorney, or authorized representative (like a person with power of attorney on file with the CA).

They have called me looking for a neighbor and when I asked who they are and why they are calling me looking for a neighbor I have never met. The lady got an attitude. I did get her name and when I called back to ask for a manager, guess who they put on the phone!!! :x I hang up and called back asking for another manager but the man who answered was very rude. I got mean and cursed him once or twice. Then they kept hanging up and calling my house.
Isn't there something we can do to stop them from contacting innocent people? How do they find of anyway? I think they should be in big trouble for harassing and bother innocent citizens!!!

What about a collection agency that found your parents' phone number (I am a legal adult and do not live in the same city nor has their address or phone # ever been listed on my accounts) and calls and leaves a message with a case number and listing a court date if I don't resolve by a certain time?

Is this sneaky enough of them to still avoid the 3rd part disclosure rule?

They called my family, but never tried to contact me. I called them back, and gave them my name, and they wanted my SSN but would not tell me who they were or what they wanted. :x

I have been getting calls from this same number. I was on the internet trying to figure out who they were. I don't know why they are calling me, but they are calling my work phone too. Today it was a lady named Jamie Hill and she just said it was personal business. Well I don't know what personal business she has with me so I'm not calling her back.

A lady called here today from 800-829-7750 wanting my cousin, with whom I have no contact. Being a computer nerd, after I got off the phone I googled the number to see what was going on. I read several posts and it sort of weirded me out. After reading a few more, I realized this is a collection agency, and knowing that my cousin does for herself and not her kids.. and other issues, I decided that I was willing to help them contact her if I knew for sure thats what type of business they were running. I called back twice and they didn't tell me anything other than they "handle personal matters". They even said, this is the 2nd time you have called today. Even when I asked if it was a collection agency and told them I had the number they wouldn't answer my question. Thats when I realized it wasn't worth my time and effort, and worry that my cousin would be ticked off, to give them her number.

This collection agency (RAB) is not only obnoxious but is breaking the law in some of your cases. First of all they ARE NOT allowed to call you at work, so if they do call you at work, answer and tell them its your work number and DO NOT call the number again. They HAVE TO honor your request. If you continue to have problems with them then report them to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). The more complaints the FTC gets, the faster they will do something about it. Google them to get the website since I couldn't post the link here. There is a form to fill out for complaints and there is a brochure of the laws regarding collection tactics on the first PDF on the left side of the page. See specifically Section 805-
Things debt collectors can't do, such as:
"communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt in a time or place inconvenient to the consumer" and they must call after 8 am and before 9 pm.
Seriously, lets put a stop to these creeps!

Hi,

It looks to me that they are just spamming, they want you to call the number so that they can sell you something. Automated messages that don't give any specific info should be ignored.

Well, I do not have a home phone to get these irritating calls, but lo and behold, my neighbor just brought a 'message' that these people had called for me at their home about 8 times. (Of course, nosy neighbor brings the 'message' of some urgent issue over.) Let's get real people. If some strange company calls for your neighbor, DO NOT respond by accepting the responsibility of relaying a message to them--all you are doing is letting the people on the other end of the phone know too much information. You do not know who these people are and you could be putting your neighbor at some risk. Just say you have no idea what they are talking about and hang up the phone!

Yes, I totally agree.

Anyone that calls for your neighbor and is not their doctor or anything related to that, should be ignored. Don't take messages from creditors or collections agencies for your neighbor. Your neighbor will definitely not like it. :(

I received the same calls and I spoke to a woman. Who stated my name and asked me if my social ended with some odd numbers. I said no. And she said, " Good day " and click I think these are telemarketting calls trying to find out information about us. If it was real why are they giving out another person last four digits of their social!

They are just scumbags "trying to earn a living." Most bankruptcies, and of course most credit defaults, are caused by job loss or medical bills.

I had both at the same time.

I hope these people experience life on the other side of the phone someday so that they will either grow a heart, or find another "profession."

These people are relentless!! My husband had a debt that is 15yrs old. Now they are tryin to collect on it. Do Not pay these people. contact your secretary of state or attorney generals office. Most states have a law called "statue of limitations". You need to see if you fall into that category. I hope this helps!! Gina

The female caller (with an obvious Memphis accent) called and said she was calling from Memphis Tennesse and was looking for an "associate" of mine. (My sister's ex-husband was the "associate.") Since he is not my "associate" I just said I do not have an "associate" named ......
She politily thanked me and hung up. This was the second call of the night. The first call went unanswered. The second call was at 8:45 p.m.

It's a STATUTE of limitations. Not a Statue. The Statue of Liberty is a statue. A law is a STATUTE.

so I very aware of RAB and they will do nothing but eventually send your debt back to the main client and they will start to collect its money just mention bankruptcy/filing a lawsuit against them for harassment or something and they have no choice but to cease calls for atleast 30 days...just stick to what you said and stay firm! also you can call the main client you owe and cease all calls for so they can't contact you...oh yea and tell them to stop calling the #'s listed and they have to because its recorded and you asked for the calls to stop they will then have to block the # out with no contact for a while until its found somewhere else unathourized

while the premise is good telling an OC either by phone or letter not to call you is you begging to be sued by said OC.now a JDB like RAB is subject to the FDCPA and must adhere to it.case in point with the C&D.btw there is no such thing as limited C&D.it is all or nothing as far as that goes.again the first part of your post was good, but you can't C&D an OC without getting sued by that OC.
