One option is you can include your accounts in the consolidation program and make monthly payments to your multiple creditors. You will get lower interest rates and the late payment fees will be waived off reducing the total balance.

Another option is if you are having large amount of debt and cannot do the payments in the consolidation plan, debt settlement will sound right for you. This program is different from the above. Your accounts will be in defaults and you will put some money in a new account opened with the settlement company. Once there is enough money in the account, the settlement company will start negotiating with your creditors and make possible ways to pay the debt faster. Ultimately, the account will get paid and it will be reported in your latest credit copy.
